I literally had the worst night of my life at this miserable event. The highlight of the entire evening was getting to speak to the paramedics, cops, firemen that had to respond when my mother was injured at the event. I pre-ordered tickets for the Horns and Hooves event (89 bucks for 3 tickets) and never recieved an email confirmation. When I arrived I was told by the ticket counter that they couldn't help me. When a senior staff came over and scolded the girls selling tickets for LYING, miraculously they were suddenly able to look up my tickets by name and email. Once I paid the ADDITIONAL fee to just enter the fair I discovered that the handicap parking was NO WHERE NEAR any of the scooter rentals in the park, meaning I had to walk from gate 5 to nearly gate 9 to rent one and drive it back. When it was time to enter the rodeo my disabled mother who I purchased handicapped seating for was MADE to leave the rented scooter with the corrals in the strollers. I showed the woman my tickets, she scanned them and my mother LIMPED her way in shame to her seat past all the other people allowed to ride in on their scooters. We watched the absolutely horrendous affair they dared to call a rodeo and after watching 3 young men get permanently disfigured and listening to the announcer merrily ordering everyone to cheer for a man left HANGING ON A GATE while another got gored and collapsed on the safe side of the gating we decided we would leave since it was apparent that they would not be receiving medical attention and no one seemed to care. On our way out my mother hobbled down a ramp and made the mistake of holding onto a safety railing where her arm was gouged by a poorly welded and mounted picture frame resulting in me having to ask a policemen for assistance. While my mother was being treated I went back to the arena where I attempted to use the bathroom but was blocked by security demanding to see my hand stamp. My hand was never stamped. I was not even allowed to present my tickets to the rude woman at the entrance who simply told me the she "was not the one to mess with" and I could just go on. So I went back to my mother who then had to return the scooter and wait outside of gate 9 while I walked all the way to the handicap parking at gate 5 and retrieved the car to pick her up. No staff at any gate could provide directions on how to get there and while I was making my way there my mother asked directions to a bathroom and was told "they're closed, you can pee at home". This was a wretched miserable experience that I spent EASILY over 200 dollars on. I have never PAID to be treated so poorly in my LIFE. I'm from Mississippi, my daddy is an OKC native and when I moved here he told me that the best thing in the whole state was the state fair...and they made a liar of...
Read moreOur State Fair once boasted to be in the top 5 in the US. They hired a guy out of Texas to manage the fair park. He is now gone thank goodness. Our Fair is nowhere near what it was. Eating places on the food rows where cut drastically. Choices were not as good. Eliminated most all fundraisers who actually had great food. Vendors in the buildings over the last 20 plus years have decreased in numbers do to high prices for a booth. The Great State Fair of Oklahoma is anything but great. They cant even fill the buildings anymore. The new building is so big and crowded it's not worth walking thru it to see what's in there. How does a fair go from 90 to 0 instead of the other way around. I'm no longer impressed in any way or form. Sad but it shows that our State Fair would rather chase the Horse industry while weeding out the Fair. I admit. We do have some of the finest horse industry facilities in the Nation. I know for a fact the horse industry is very lucrative and...
Read moreMake sure you pick up a map because this place is so confusing. I feel like there was really no true organization here, you just keep going in circles until you find what you're looking for. There wasn't a lot of variety in the shopping areas it was really a bunch of the same things in each location. There wasn't a lot of variety in food options either, I was actually so disappointed in the food options. Dan's famous indian tacos was a bust for me, they piled a mountain of shredded lettuce and left me with barely anything else on my taco. The fry bread was delicious though, I'll give them that at least.
Otherwise, it was all just okay. Normal overpriced games and rides. I thought it was crazy thought that we could spend $50 on a little band for unlimited rides and then it not even count for all of the rides. I'm not talking about any "special, popular ride" I'm talking about the carousel for smaller children wouldn't even take the band. Probably honestly will...
