Legion Park is a decent park for it's location inside city limits. Located right alongside one of Owensboro's busiest streets, JR Miller Blvd, it is certainly easy to find. The playground equipment is all situated in one area, making it easier to keep an eye on your young ones; however, all features are designed for the 5 and under crowd so if you have an older kiddo, chances are they won't find much to keep them busy. The most redeeming feature of the playground, the mini water park, unfortunately seems to be out of commission about 50% of the time. Legion does have a paved walking trail that circles the park. The pavement is smooth so it is perfect for rollerblading, if that's your thing. The only drawback here is that the trail is often quite crowded, so you may want to check on the Parks & Rec website to determine when it will be less crowded with other people. This park is also a great place for a picnic lunch with plenty of picnic tables, some stationary mini grills and lots of shade. If you do decide to picnic here, beware of the ravenous squirrels and do not leave your food unattended! Before you can blink an eye, 50 of these industrious little critters will desend upon your site, tear into your loafs of bread & buns and rip open your packages of potato chips. Cellophane and aluminum foil present no challenges either, as they can easily unwrap these packages to get at whatever food you have stored inside. Once there, you will be hard pressed to get them to leave! They are so used to people at this point that only the most drastic gestures or loudest noises will deter them from their...

This park is a wonderful little oasis conveniently located with easy entry & exits. It has a decent amount of parking, 2 pavilions available for rent, multiple picnic tables, restrooms, a walking trail, benches for adults to sit while keeping an eye on their kids playing, a decent sized updated playground area with equipment that is suitable for both small & larger kids. The zipline & the recessed merry-go-round especially are favorites. They also have a small but fun water area during the summer. The park has lovely big established trees for shade, is clean with conveniently located trash cans & is well maintained. My family has been coming here since I was a little girl for reunions & holds lots of wonderful memories for me.. even if the old hot metal slide is long gone.. I'm now making new memories with the Littles in my...

It's a nice park for bringing your kids to or just walking the path. It's always been one of my favorite places to go.

It reminds me of one time after a bad storm years ago I came here and a tree had fallen over. There were squirrels everywhere, all confused by it. They were talking about how the recent remodeling wasn't to their liking and were thinking about an uprising. Naturally this concerned me. Thankfully, I had a bag of Tostitos in my car and offered them some. I don't know if it's healthy to feed them Tostitos or not. I just know that I singlehandedly prevented Legion Park from turning into a...

The Christmas lights was very nice to walk around and see, bit after seeing the exact ones yr after year, and them being so far spaced out one from the other, unfortunately it's not the hype of the tri-state in this season, the park is always well kept, but this yr was just dissatisfied and expecting something new, maybe next year there will be too see!!

I visited my sister who still loves in Owensboro, where we both grew up, and took my nephews to the Christmas lights at Legion Park. It was surreal being back there as an adult, taking some kids to a thing I used to do as a kid. The part equipment is a blast. The lights were great. The paths are smooth and fun for the kids' scooters. It was awesome.
