We had such an amazing weekend at Zachari Dunes at Mandalay Beach 🌊☀️ The perfect spot for stunning ocean views and plenty of space for Otis to play. If you're in SoCal, this spot is a must—can't wait to return! 🐾 #vacation #dogfriendly #beach #california

Had a pleasant stay at the Zachari Dunes on Mandalay Beach part of the Curio Collection by Hilton in Oxnard, California. The coolest part is that all rooms are suites and have two bathrooms. Fun fact: it used to be an Embassy Suites! #hotels #california #oceanview #suite

Our stay overall ok. Read reviews before booking and took a chance. first night, we went to the pool and supposed to have dive and movies at 8pm. The guy that sets it up didn’t get in the pool area till 820ish. Set up was quick but no audio or very faint. we didn’t hear any not until towards halfway of the movie. 2nd full day, we went to the beach all day. no tar issues, no lifeguards on the beach or the pool. around 5ish we headed to the pool and it was a bit crowded. place was a mess, towels all over and leftover food and paper napkins everywhere. towels were not available, waited over an hour for it! there was a line when it came! what we thought was gross is that the same cart they use to transport dirty towels out of the pool area is the same one they use to bring “cleaned” towels back to give out! it was not lined nor the cleaned towels bagged in plastic even though its the same cart. so pretty much they were not clean towels. it was also obvious pool packed because of guests that purchased day passes, not wedding guests! Pool water was heated at least and the whirlpool too! but obvious no one cleans the tables and chairs; and the area in general. you see staff walking around but doesn’t pick up towels nor clean when they up plates just walks away. ordered food cause sign say no outside food or drinks. For 3 appetizer serving size we got, it was pricey and food tasted ok! But after ordering, we looked around and realized other guests were bringing their own food ordered from outside! yeah pizza boxes, food in bags delivered. after this, we didn’t order anymore food from the hotel. we had food delivered and ate in our room. for about the sane price we paid for pool food, we got main food servings for 6 people. we are hilton honors gold members but didn’t get any room upgrades. told they are fully booked but parking not packed? also requested late checkout and was told 12noon instead of 2pm. They told us it’s their policy that anything later than their standard 11am is an upgrade fee and should have been requested upon booking! Added that giving us the 12noon late checkout is to accommodate since we didn’t get our room upgrade! This was a first for us! Stayed at a Waldorf hotel and it was not an issue when we requested late checkout the night prior of our check out day and we didn’t have to say we are hiton honors, they knew and just responded glad you are a hilton honors guests, late checkout is complimentary for 2pm. But not here at zachari dunes mandalay bay! everything is an upgrade fee! we mobile check in but upon arrival my husband prefer to have a keycard so we went to the front desk. No one told us or showed us how to get to our room. We were given a map of the property. It was a bit of a walk to get to our room and we end up walking in circles before we saw the path to the building of our room. We asked one of the staff and was directed to head towards the beach when our building is on the right of the pool :(

I wanted to give this hotel more stars, because the location and the mattresses and the front desk (especially Tyler and Michelle) are excellent. You can’t really say enough about the fabulous location. What could be better than the Pacific Ocean hugged by sand dunes! And a great mattress is what a good hotel should start with, and this one does it spectacularly. We’ve been in others rated higher that had mattresses that were old and lumpy. Driving into the hotel entrance, it is obvious by the very architecture that this hotel aims to impress. So the things that disappoint hit harder. The ambience for dining here is wonderful. Indoor or patio dining with excellent t service—quite inviting. What detracts is the food, which is middle-of-the-road at best. I wanted the pumpkin soup and grilled cheese but they have a pre-made soup that includes the dreaded Canola oil. I’ll skip the Round-Up and hexane residue. So I ordered just the sandwich, and made a BIG point, as y’all expect from me, to specify NO CANOLA, please grill in butter. The $20 soup and sandwich became a children’s menu grilled cheese. Ok, fine. But white bread, tasteless cheese, and $16 (pricey for a bland sandwich on ordinary bread), evidently priced for a side of fries in, you guessed it, CANOLA. I was not offered a side salad or another choice. What part didn’t they get? Ok, that’s the food, not really about hotel. As for the room-suite, we were offered an upgrade of the garden or pool view. Both were first floor, both somewhat on the noisy side. A higher floor may be quieter We were not offered an ocean view, even though we are Hilton Honors Gold status. Hmm. In general we expected more value for $500 a night. Some other nits: the toilet paper holder in the main bathroom was installed improperly and the toilet paper constantly dislodged and rolled across the floor. The maids said they have repeatedly reported the problem with no response. The same toilet had incomplete flush which they did fix on request. The fan-light couldn’t be adjusted for light only. There is no lobby coffee. The room coffee is so-so and coffee from Sugar Beats is only available on Fridays and Sundays. But when we did have these coffees, they were good and competitively priced. We didn’t try Happy Hour, which locals say is good. The chocolate bar in the gift shop was $12 for 3oz—that’s about $100 a pound. lol. So it was amazing. But how about a Ghirardelli option too. One great thing: the hotel is a pleasant, easy mile and a half walk to Oxnard Harbor, and the harbor has wonderful restaurants and amazing ambiance.
