Sugar Beats, Where do I even begin with this nightmare of an experience? I was foolishly lured in by their deceptive Instagram post advertising a Taco Tuesday special with three tacos for $5. My wife and I made the regrettable decision to drive there, expecting a new and enjoyable dining experience. We were willing to overlook the fact that it was nothing more than a glorified food truck, as we naively believed the price was reasonable and it was conveniently located within Mandalay.
Upon arriving, I was utterly appalled to discover that they were only selling tacos, and each pathetic excuse for a taco was priced at an outrageous $5. Against my better judgment, I decided to proceed with my order. When I inquired about their margaritas, I was informed that they only had canned margaritas for an absurd $8, which was a slap in the face as I had hoped for a homemade drink. I chose not to waste my money on their insulting margarita selection.
I placed an order for two of each of the three types of tacos and two Cokes. The incompetent cashier initially misunderstood my simple order, resulting in a ludicrous bill of $105. After clarifying my order with the help of another equally inept staff member, the total came to an astronomical $52 for six measly tacos and two Cokes, which was nothing short of highway robbery.
The wait time for our order was an agonizing 45 minutes, despite their pointless attempt at taking names. The salsa was carelessly placed on a table below the window, exposed to the elements and potential contamination from other customers, which was a blatant disregard for basic food safety and hygiene. When our tacos finally arrived, they were utterly tasteless and disappointing, especially considering the exorbitant price.
To add insult to injury, the Cokes were served in flimsy plastic bottles and cost an astonishing $6 each, making me feel like I was being fleeced at a second-rate amusement park. The overall experience was an absolute travesty, and I cannot stress enough how strongly I advise against patronizing this establishment. I believe it would have been more cost-effective and infinitely more satisfying to order from a vending machine than to subject oneself to the misery that is...
Read moreStayed at the Zachari dunes resort and came across sugar beats. Really cute concept of a converted airstream trailer into a permanent food truck. The menu looked good so we ventured over to check it out. Arrived for a late afternoon snack but they had already closed. Came back the second day and caught them at their break time. Not one to be discouraged we headed back in the afternoon and ordered the shrimp tacos, fish and chips, LA hot dog and a cafe Americano. About a 15 minute wait which wasn’t horrible because we sat in their little eating area with the water features trickling in the background.
The employees were polite and friendly. The kitchen clean. The food was REALLY good. The shrimp tacos came with two tacos on a double full size corn tortilla. Each taco had three big blackened shrimps, grilled not fried, with a pico de gallo and mayo style dressing. Delicious. The fish and chips were battered nicely (not too heavy on the batter) and fried perfectly - fluffy and not greasy. Steaming hot white fish ( cod maybe?) was juicy and fresh. Thin style fries cooked perfectly. The LA dog was a bacon wrapped all beef (big) hot dog slathered with a ketchup sauce I believe and grilled onions and bell-pepper mix. The coffee was tasty and hot. I want to say all in with tip was $60. A bit steep maybe but what isn’t these days??!!🤦♂️ I felt the price was worth it for the cute ambience and really good food.
I read these other negative reviews and we didn’t get any of that at all. I would give 5 stars except for the two issues, their hours are funky (wish they had longer hours open) and yeah, may be a tad pricey. But like I said worth it I think. We live in the area and will definitely drive over to eat...
Read moreI want to give them 5 stars but let me tell you why I didn’t. My wife and I came here for breakfast this morning and we were super stoked to get food here and try this place out. We’re locals in the area and so this has been on our list to try out. We stayed at the hotel right here got in line got our food. My wife ordered the Nutella French toast, which was super good and I ordered the breakfast burrito, which was really good. They gave me one container of salsa and halfway through the burrito. I ran out of salsa so I went up and asked the guy for another container of salsa and he told me he needed to look in the fridge to see if they had any more He was rifling around in the fridge and told me he didn’t think they had enough that he could give another one to me. I immediately thought to myself. How could you expect me to order a breakfast burrito and he was only one thing of salsa before I had an opportunity to reply to him. The cook spoke up and said that they could go and get more which I was really grateful he did. So the reason I’m giving them three stars is, I can’t believe you would serve someone a breakfast burrito and not offer them or not even have the opportunity for them to get more salsa. And the fact that the price is on their menus, which are both out front of the trailer don’t lineup you can see the pictures that I posted to show the...
