Sharp Park Golf Course is unique in that you could take your entire family even if they don't play golf. It is bordered by scenic wonders of the California coast, beautiful beaches of the Pacific Ocean and hiking trails that are filled with wild life. Bird watching on hikes and picnics is really great. So, while the family enjoys the beach and hiking you can play golf then join them for swimming, surfing or hiking, bird watching and the picnic after your round.

I've been playing Sharps for over 20 years. I've never seen it in better shape than at this point in time. Now, it's not 100% just yet. But the greens are better than I've ever seen them. And the fairways even with this horrible drought are in are in good shape and in some places they're as good as you'll get anywhere. I must admit 16,17 are so dried out it will be a wonder if they ever recover but with the great grounds crew they have those fairway will come back.

Sharps is a terrific golf course challenging in its own way especially because your playing on an ocean fronted course. Ocean view golf is usually played out for multiple hundreds of dollars on courses like Spanish Bay, Torrey Pines or Pebble Beach, but Sharps is a Muni so the greens fees are a pittance in comparison.

The clubhouse staff, grounds keepers and Marshals are salt of the earth. The restaurant is pretty darn good . . . well, you know . . . for golf course food it's better than most public courses.

It's not Saint Andrews, or Pebble Beach, or Harding or the Olympic club. It's not too challenging . . . so if you put three good shots together, per hole, it's fairly easy to break 90.

Once those 16 and 17th fairways are fixed this is a Five Star course any day...

Stumbled upon this place after it was mentioned on a website of places to play in the bay area. Played here for the first time recently. Got a 10 am tee time on a weekend. $56 walking. They charge $40 for a cart, doesn't matter if you're a single or double. It's flat $40 and cash only for carts which I thought was really weird cause you can pay for your green fees with a card. Carts are gas powered NOT electric. The course is very walkable, when I was there about 80% of golfers were walking. There's no driving range here, so that's a negative. You won't be able to see the ocean the whole time you're playing golf. There's a huge hill/dune with a trail on top that is blocking the entire view of the ocean. People walking the trail do have a great view of you playing golf though. Course was fun, fairways were in decent shape. Sharp Park doesn't live up to the poorman's pebble beach title. I still think Pacific Grove Golf Links is the poorman's pebble beach and it's only about $10 more than sharp park. Pace of play was good for a weekend. We also ate at the restaurant after and the food was good. Sharp Park is worth a visit but being from the south bay I don't think I'll be back...

Wanted to share my recent experience here. Booked a tee time for 7:30 am Mar 25 the day before and called in to ask if there were any restrictions on the course. I was told confidently that there was no flooding, the full course was open and that the course wasn't even cart path only (to my surprise, given the amount of rain that we have been having).

We showed up a half hour before the tee time and were told by the pro shop attendant that 9 holes were closed due to flooding. I told him what I had been told on the phone and got the generic answer "course conditions change day to day". Only after I pressed did he admit that the course had been like this for some time. Scummy business practice not to give an update on the website, have phone reps lie to players, and then try to gaslight those who show up. I can only assume from the actions of the attendant that this is intentional to try to keep business up while the course is in...

Fun historic layout, can't beat the location. Little bit "pasture golf" in upkeep - grass is pretty much single cut. I was okay with it, keeps it simple, just not something you see very often. A bigger budget would go a long way for this course. SF parks should put some renovation funds into Sharp, a McKenzie muni. Not many carts available, but I believe that actually helps keep the course in much better shape overall, less wear and tear. Easy walk, get the full experience. Would be cool if they figured out a way to restore one of the original holes instead of hole 8, a short pitch shot par 3. 4 stars for fun, approachable, historic layout. Could easily be 4+ with more love. Actually more like 3.5 star today, but gave it extra credit for not trying to be something it isn't. Deserves more funding from SF parks, but with intent to improve while keeping simple and accessible.

Sharp Park restaurant is a hidden gem. Call ahead to find out when they're open. Their schedule is quirky and caters to golfer's hours. Their food makes up for any scheduling inconvenience. Try their prime rib. It is huge and very tasty! It comes with veggies and a baked potato. If you are a senior the price is less. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the golf course and the interior of the restaurant has wood beams, tall ceilings and looks to be old Californian. Allister Mac Kenzie, the well known British Architect designed the golf course in the 1930's. The view of the golf course from the dining room is breathtaking at sunset. Don't miss looking at the beautiful view. There is room for group events and they do an efficient job of that too. The restaurant is worth a trip to Pacifica. Note, the restrooms are from the 30's and were designed for the golfing crowd.

This golf course has so much potential, but suffers from lack of maintenance. Fairways are pedestrian. Grass in areas are not mowed, lots of dead spots and crab grass. Greens were bumpy after recently being aerated to get rid of a weed infestation. However I’ve played courses with aerated holes and the balls didn’t roll as bad as these. Sidewalk cart paths are broken so why bother renting a cart. Holes 4-7 are challenging with the elevation changes. Holes 16-17 are next to the beach trail and you can hear the ocean waves. They should discount the green fees until the putting green issues are remedied by SF Parks and Rec. Bar and restaurant have a decent options and are worth a visit. Again, so much potential, but current conditions are not worthy of an Alister McKenzie course.
