Good product but not in a good store.
We got our closets done here and we absolutely love the closets. The problem is in dealing with this store. The people are not really rude or anything they're just uninformed and disoriented. The manager seems to know her stuff pretty well, but I don't think she's done a good enough job to see that the rest of the staff in the store do the same. Here's a couple of examples
I went back to return some components of my closet. The woman at the counter was counting them one by one and she picked up the jewelry box component and keyed it in as one thing. I remembered just by picking it up that it had two pieces to it and I told her there's another piece in there. So she took another look and then referred to her manual and acknowledged that she missed the inner part. Like I said, she wasn't rude at all, and she didn't argue at all, she just didn't know that a jewelry box was made of 4 parts and each one had its own value. Had I not intervened she would have overlooked $50 in return money.
Then there was another case where she told me if components were cut they couldn't take them back. So I kept them back in the car and happened to talk to the store manager and brought this up and she said that as long they were bought in the last 4 months cut pieces could be returned. So I went to car and brought it back and a new woman at the registration counter again said cut pieces couldn't be returned. So we went back to the design counter and got another person from design who said again that they could and convinced the woman at the register to take them back. When she did key them in I got a receipt back for close to $60.
All in all this lack of knowledge could have cost me $110 in what were plain and simple mistakes due to a lack of knowledge of the company policies and its products. I prefer the store in NYC where the staff has a better grasp of...
Read moreI needed a file cabinet for work at home job related tasks. Upon searching the Internet, I found one that suited my needs carried by The Container Store. To avoid a wasted trip, I reached out to Corporate to be certain item was in stock. I advised Livingston is closest to me and found item to be out of stock but available in Paramus. Since inventory is not in real real time, I was told to call store directly for a more definitive answer. Spoke to a woman and stated she will put item aside until given time and to come to rear of store. I thanked her for going above and beyond. I later called back advising I was unable to leave work site and offered to make payment on phone. Upon a quick search of my name and item she stated there is no record and was at a loss as to why an arrangement like this was made by the store in the first place. She went further to say she will research and call me back. When asked if it will be today, she was quite adamant in affirming this and I thanked her for her efforts. Was never called back and feel very insulted on how this was handled. If a request cannot or will not be met, it should so be stated. I was raised in an era where your word is your bond, and loyalty is a 2 way street. Even if issue was unable to be resolved, a phone call should have been made with status, if nothing else. Arthur and his assistant were professional, competent, and extremely neat. They not only did a fabulous job of installing my closets, but they cleaned up the space when they were through, piled up all the leftover pieces and hauled away all the trash. My space was cleaner than when they started. The Container store is very lucky to have such a knowledgeable and personable sales person and such competent installers.
