VERY AWESOME SUNDAY! We went to a really cool new experience in Paramus called Sandbox VR. Not the standard VR game you pay $20 bucks for a 5 minute ride. This is more than VR it is AR (augmented reality). This is truly an experience. I purchased our tickets online. Received a confirmation and an email with an explanation of what to expect.
You're all set! Your reservation for Curse of Davy Jones is confirmed. After you play, we'll send you and your guests videos and team stats. "To ensure you get the full experience: -Have everyone in your group arrive 10 minutes early. -Any tardiness beyond your reservation start time will result in your experience in the VR world being shortened -Any tardiness beyond 5 minutes will result in automatic cancelation, a $50 cancelation fee and the rest of your balance will be refunded in a voucher for future use -Wear light, comfortable clothing so you can move around freely -Wear contacts instead of glasses for more comfort -Wearing a mask is highly encouraged" We received your standard covid reminder as well. ---Due to COVID-19, we kindly remind you to: reschedule if you are not feeling well for any reason wear a mask prior to entering arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled booking time Thank you for your understanding. Stay safe and healthy!
We arrived and were greeted at the door by a team of 3 friendly employees. They couldn't be nicer, asked if we had been there before and began walking us through the process. We chose the Pirate Adventure called the Curse of Davy Jones. We were directed to a bench area where they assigned us positions and colors. Each of us was outfitted with 2 hand bands, 2 foot bands, and a vest. This is the part that works to emerge you into the experience. They directed us to the playroom and gave use instructions as to what was the front of the experience and how the walls look with the VR lenses on and the code word to stop the experience in case we were overwhelmed. Next came the head gear and a VR glasses. We were now Pirates! "Batten Down the Hatches, our video directions and our adventure began. We WERE the PIRATES and WE protected the gold. Argh Matey! We had a blast. 40-50 minutes from the start time we emerged from our experience with one MVP and 3 teammates. Our group ranges from age 10 to age 51, we all enjoyed it equally. We can't wait to go back and explore the other adventures. They have a fantastic party room and 4 experience rooms. Each room holds from 4-6 people at a time. You can even have competitions. One of the best parts was watching our videos at the end. Those videos are yours to keep for a great memory until your next visit. experience costs about...
Read more4/2/2022 Update: GM asked we update our review based on the free round on him. Much improved staff in terms of quality and quantity. Operations are exponentially smoother than back in February. Five stars for the April experience. 2/20/2022 Update: GM called us and offered an apology and next round is on him. Grateful for understanding our frustration; hopefully next round is more smooth - if so will update review. 2/19/2022: Initial Review: Zero Stars We made reservations for 10:45PM on February 19, 2022 to play Amber Sky 2088. We waited over half an hour to get into our room - pretty sure groups that came after us got put in before us - whether they had reservations slots before us is something I'm willing to let go, but once we were in they had us in the VR waiting room for another 40 minute due to technical difficulties. They reset the game two or three times and ultimately said we couldn't play Amber Sky or anything with the assault riffles. When we asked for our options they said we could play Curse of Davy Jones, a kiddie game. When we told them that's not what we wanted and if we could get another room, they said it was fully occupied and we would have to wait another 30 minutes. They said we would be refunded for our reservations but we could still play Davy Jones and that our next reservations would be 20% off. I appreciate the offer but 20% is not going to cut it for having us wait over an hour from our reservation time. My friend that organized it also had skin irritations/rash where the goggles were. We understand there could be technical difficulties, but the logistics of setting up a reservation and not honoring it within reason is ridiculous. The group waiting with us didn't even get into a room while we were leaving well past midnight. The game itself had alot of glitches, the sound would cut, the graphics jumpy, etc. We will reach out to the GM to see if they will do more than 20% off for our next reservation - willing to go again and...
Read moreWent here on a Wednesday night to kind of switch up date night. The building was pretty easy to find and is located right off the highway. Suite is on the second floor. When walking in, it looks super techy which was cool. The experience overall was great. I would definitely wear something comfortable and light, as you will be doing a lot of moving around. I got pretty hot after they loaded up all the gear. So did my date. Sneakers/comfy shoes only. There was some sort of difficulty with the system so even though we had a 8:30 start time, we didn’t get to start playing until after 9. They worked hard to get the system up and running so we stayed patient. Workers kept us updated the entire time and were extremely professional and apologetic about the wait. It didn’t damper our experience at all.
Few bumps in the experience: System was down temporarily ( as mentioned above)
Everything else was seamless.
We played deadwood mansion which was pretty scary with a good concept.Overall, would recommend and will go again. If you are looking to switch up the typical dinner and a movie date night, give this place a try.
Update: Jeremy from Sandbox reached out and apologized AGAIN about the wait! This place is still new to the area and they’re clearly working super hard to get...
