This used to be way more than a five star but since they have built up the ski resorts and houses up that way along with other stuff it's not nearly as beautiful as it used to be. Silver Lake on top of Big Cottonwood Canyon they've totally ruined the natural beauty of this canyon and lake by unneeded building. One lady heard me talking to my husband while visiting and I was asking him why... why did they ruin this place I don't understand and this nosey lady said to make it better and for the disabled excuse me I'm disabled and so are multiple people in my family that has been visiting it for decades before the build, so I'm sorry lady but you can't make it better than what God created! I am a Utah native and you should have seen this canyon and lake in it's heyday. It was so gorgeous now it's just a tourist attraction, ski resort and rich people living space, they even built on top of my aunts memorial and cut down the tree we planted for her and they did it to build a house, It was even marked with a marker that had her name and birthday and death day they knew it was a memorial and that didn't stop them from destroying it to build a house... how...
Read moreOur family always enjoys strolling around Silver Lake at the top of Big Cottonwood canyon. It's beautiful. Currently, they are working on the plank trail so you can't go around the entire lake (August 2023) but eventually, everything will be open. In the meantime, you can walk about halfway and then turn around.
To our delight, we spotted a bald eagle nesting atop a massive pine on the far side of the lake and two deer leaped playfully through the brush near the path. Magnificent.
We al ways take a picnic with us Because there are picnic tables available.
Quick thought, remember your bug spray. The mosquitos were biting in the evening. Also, no dogs are allowed up the canyon. It is a watershed area. Lastly, if possible when going in groups, Park some cars at the bottom of the canyon and carpool up together. It takes about twenty minutes to reach Silver Lake by car...
Read moreSilver Lake is a beautiful area!! They are doing construction on the boardwalk, so right now, it is an out-and-back trail, although it's normally a loop. Also due to the construction, the water has been drained, so it's not as full as it normally is, and a lot of plants have grown in, but there is still a good amount of water and it is beautiful. While there, we saw a moose, a bald eagle, ducks, and a deer! I am told it's rare to see a bald eagle there, although moose are often spotted. While the construction is going on and water is lower, there seem to be more mosquitos, so bring bug repellent with you! It's a nice, easy trail. In some spots, the trail is a little wet from small streams coming from the mountain or the ground, but they can be stepped over most of the time. Just keep that in mind when you're deciding what shoes you'd...
