Attended a paint event as part of a fundraiser. Location has easy parking, is easy to find, and ability to bring your own snacks is great!
Instructor had a positive outlook. At times, she was difficult to follow. People around me sometimes got confused or struggled to keep up, so I knew my frustration was shared by others. I attended with six friends, and each confirmed what I say herein.
That said, I've registered for two more events as a single outing isn't a total review, of course. One is another painting, and the other is painting a bottle lamp.
5/4/16 update: unfortunately, the instructor was the same person, and she IS definitely difficult to follow. My friend who went with me agreed, and people who were strangers who we met and chatted with during the class said the same thing. Unclear paint blending, and while individual hues were encouraged, if you wanted the painting advertised, there was no direction to at least know the number of shades to mix or instruction on how to achieve facsimiles of those colors. Instructor even altered her own painting dissatisfied with how dark her ground was at first...why wouldn't there be a "formula" of sorts? Other paint night venues have at least guides to help you achieve a likeness that is then open to personal options and creativity. Here, it has felt twice now like we are too "on our own" and/or things move slowly and then too fast to keep up. It isn't consistent. Going for a bottle lamp next, and we will see what happens from there. 5/8/16 As luck would have it, while there were two events at once, we had the SAME instructor I've had all three times I've been here. Lamp project came out ok, and people near us and we "did our own thing" as far as how we chose to cover the bottle, and then blend paint colors, and apply numbers of flowers and in what locations. Instructor basically says "do something like this" and demonstrates vs really describing a method or technique. I don't love her style of teaching. For now, I plan to attend other events like Paint Nite and Muse, and will ask about instructor before registering again at Paint and Vino to be sure it is someone else. It isn't fair to the venue overall not to try another person, so I will keep...
Read moreThis was my second time attending a paint night at Paint and Vino. I went with the same people and it was with the same instructor. The first time we went we would easily rate it with 5 stars and that's why we booked a second visit. This time rating it with 2 stars is a stretch. Granted, we did an easier painting the first time, but it was very difficult to complete a more complicated or detailed painting in the same timeframe and with more people in attendance. The instructor went through the steps whether or not a majority of the people were ready. She was hard to follow at times and she was on the fast track. She was not aware of the "students" in front of her, who paid to attend this event. She did offer to catch us up during the 15 min. break, but instead she spent that time helping one individual. Break time was about over and she was getting ready to get back on stage to show us the next step and we called her over since we had 2 or 3 steps to catch up to where she left off and she did say she would catch us up during the break. Instead, she offered to help us some other night because at our rate she wouldn't be out of there until 11pm and she had to keep it going. She was rude, unprofessional and I will never return to another event. The timeframe for these paint nights don't change, so I urge you to book with caution especially if it is a more detailed choice.
9/27/17: I posted a review on Aug. 17, 2017, giving Paint and Vino 2 stars, but after my ordeal, I am now rating it with one. After many days and e-mail exchanges, with Rachel, all ignoring my request for a refund, she replied with the e-mail below. Now I wonder, does this establishment really have 4.8/5 stars or were others paid off. I now have a different view on reviews. I wish this company well, but I want nothing to do with them. They can keep my money and I will...
