The location of the place is beautiful however I was surprised that there was trash blowing around on the beach in the bay harbor town center. We stayed in the Cottages. We were so excited as I had read nothing but great reviews which didn’t live up to the prior ratings. Upon first entering the cottage everything was filthy as if the room was never cleaned from the previous occupants. The bathrooms were downright gross. The refrigerator was smeared and dirty, the coffee maker was dusty and blatantly dirty, the table was not even wiped with coffee splashes still on it. The carpet was extremely disgusting and horribly stained. The pull out sofa bed was hard as a rock. So that covers the surface stuff. Cosmetically, the place needed a fresh coat of paint and some updated furniture that didn’t look dingy and dirty. I did call the front desk to report the negligence, and request different accommodations, but all they could offer was a $200 credit off a $3000 bill. I guess that’s better than nothing but not by much. I’m hoping this review can save someone else from spending a lot of money to have to deal with 3 days of staying in a gross dirty place. As for Marriott, I hope you read this and up your game on this property. It’s in dire need of a clean refresh and hire some managers who actually know how to clean a place. I’m still grossed out just thinking about that disgusting bathroom. A couple days after my review, I was contacted by the hotel. I must say their follow up and desire to make it right was impressive. Hopefully Marriott will spend the money on maintaining and sprucing up such a wonderfully located property. It seems such a shame to let it...
Read moreWe had high hopes for these cottages. 2 story, 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathrooms. Seemed like it would be perfect. The living space is sized well, the issue is with the details. We stayed in unit 626 and I would definitely recommend NOT staying in this unit.
The good: the unit is light and bright, there is plenty of space
The bad: the flooring in the kitchen is coming a part and coming up. The flooring in the entry is torn. The porch door is so drafty (we came up 3/21/25) that it threw the entire heating of the unit. Main floor was 70, upstairs was 80 and the main floor master was maybe 62. The Main floor master has a constant ticking near the curtains, we could never find the source, the master suite has all of the noises, it seems like all of the plumbing routes through this room as you can hear everyone using the bathrooms or shower. Every room has a view of the parking lot - which is what it is, but combined with all of the other issues, just served as one more thing to pick on. TV is mounted above the fireplace and with the placement of the couch had us looking at a weird and uncomfortable angle to watch March Madness. We moved the couch back to improve the viewing angle and realized they never vacuum under the couch - pretty gross.
We love Petoskey and heard great things about the Inn at Bay Harbor and maybe the hotel is better than the cottages. From my point of view, for the cost, I expect a lot more. This place is not inexpensive, yet I've stayed in better kept low end hotels. Badly in need of updating...
Read moreFall Family Fun is how I would describe our visit at Bay Harbor. This time of year is so beautiful with the fall colors, everywhere we wanted to go was only about 5-10 minutes away and hanging out with your family doing fun stuff is simply the best! The weather was exceptional while we were there and even got to use the pool. The entire resort, grounds and lakeside cottages are very nice. The 3 bedroom is very comfortable for 8 people to sleep and shower but the living space to relax, eat and hang out is very tight. The kitchen table only seats 4 with an add'l 4 high bar stools at the kitchen counter. Enjoying a family dinner is not possible to sit all together around the table. The living room or family room where the couch is very small area and only has one couch and one chair both of which were in need of being replaced. Lighting was poor in most rooms and no lights on deck porch. The place itself is beautifully maintained and the landscaping and flowers were just gorgeous but the interior decor in our unit needs to be updated badly, signs of being outdated and worn. Unit was very clean and the resort and housekeeping staff were more than willing to meet any request we had at any time. Service was excellent! We would absolutely for sure make a return visit to this resort and to this area of Michigan...
