Read the other reviews and you'll get a sense of the deplorable condition of this train station. People blame SEPTA, but surely Amtrak is also at fault for the complete and utter neglect of the North Philadelphia station. My bf and I happen to have to use it fairly regularly, and after dark it's frightening. There is no security, and as mentioned, there is neither a ticket booth nor a ticket-vending machine. The glass in the "waiting area" at the top of the steps has been bashed out so frequently that they've given up on replacing it. And then, all around (on the Indiana Street side) is a vast parking lot with not a single car in it. Mind you, it's free. Read moreA historic station in Philadelphia along the Northeast Corridor. Sadly, it has succumbed to the surrounding neighborhood and is sometimes frequented by vagrants and drug users. Vandals keep the platforms and through tunnel covered in trash and fresh graffiti. A shame that Amtrak doesn't shell some money and do more to keep the station cleaner, discourage vandalism and possibly have some station attendants or security there. It wasn't what she said, it was how she said it. She wasn't courteous and acted as if I was bothering her. There was no other customers waiting at the ticket line.
