My husband and I drove in from Wisconsin for the 2 day Basic and Advanced Land Navigation courses. The drive was well worth the training we received from True North Wilderness Survival School. Erik’s breakdown of how to navigate, how to use a compass and a map, how to read the terrain and many other skills were taught in a way to comprehend the skill and to trust in your comprehension. Erik is not only a professional in his knowledge of land navigation; his specialty is teaching it to others using many different techniques so everyone in his class understands. It’s a gratifying feeling when you use the skills you are taught and make it to the next point on your map. If you’re thinking about taking a course with Erik, just do it, you will learn, you will do and you will enjoy it.

I really enjoyed our Basic Wilderness Survival Class. It teaches you to prioritize skills and actions during a survival situation. Our instructor J.C. was very knowledgeable, approachable and easy to understand. He gives out a lot of helpful Information but first asks questions to give the group a chance to participate and share previously learned concepts. Then he proceeds to clarify and correct those concepts. I would recommend this course to anyone who likes to spend time outdoors, whether it’s a short Sunday hike or a multi-day adventure. This course left me motivated to learn and practice more skills and I’ll certainly be considering them again for additional courses and referrals. Thank you, True North! 🏞️

Erik far exceeded my expectations. It was an informative class, plus super fun. Erik is truly passionate about this skill and takes the time to be absolutely sure you get as much out of the day as possible. If you follow Erik’s pointers, you will be rewarded with the carrot of self fulfillment when your coordinates finally lead you to your target 600 meters through the woods. Would recommend for family, friends, hunters, outdoorsmen, and military.

Anybody trying out for the military, especially special operations, is going to need Eric and Terri's military land navigation course to succeed. The baseline and advanced military land nav is highly, highly recommended. Other than Eric and Terri being the best at their craft in whatever their teaching, this course will show you what you need to work on and how to achieve your goals especially ironing out any wrinkles you may have along the way. 5 stars alone does not do it any justice because it achieves a 10 star rating due to how its being taught and by whom its being taught. For 18x candidates, please take this class if your taking selection seriously. Whatever your financial or personal circumstances, it is worth getting a leg up in Special Operations and learning the topographical terrain with Eric and Terri's mentorship and guidance. They are phenomenal teachers to ask for help and provide excellent resources to raise your level of confidence in reaching checkpoints if any issues arise along the way. They wont hold your hand but give you just enough to show how you can attempt the mandates while maintaing the highest standards of safety and professionalism with the rest of the group in mind.Your mental capacity will be pushed to its peak while tackling the trail with its many obstacles, but only gets easier with every pace, until you find the joy of spotting your checkpoint with your heading and calculations in mind. I hope to see both of you again at the staring...

Wilderness = High School...

I bet we can all remember the anticipation leading up to your first day of high school. The nervousness and anxiety. Why? We'd had years of training leading up to this, we had our backpack, stuffed with everything on our supply list. Yet we were cautious in our approach. Ever have to visit the school nurse? How was the food in the cafeteria?.?.? NOW, in the wilderness, YOU are the nurse, the lunch lady, the shop teacher, the coach, and the principal. Yet we walk off onto a trailhead with nothing but a smile and maybe our water bottle... Ever get lost in the halls, every row of lockers looked the same...? Yet we take off down a trail into the woods with reckless abandon... So maybe you're a smart hiker and purchased all the gear on the list. Ever remember that kid who had a better, or easier to use, or more practical item? Remember thinking "man, I didn't even know they made one like that". This course is the answer! It's the training, the education, and the show and tell, all in one awesome weekend. It's families, friends, and individuals, all coming together to learn and prepare themselves for the wilderness. High school didn't kill us; because we were trained, had the right gear, and knew how to use it. Take this course and you'll be as prepared for the wilderness as you were for high school. They're not too different, IF you're prepared... Thank you Erik for such a great education, I can't wait to take...

I took the Basic and Advanced Land Navigation class this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it! I love learning new skillsets, particularly ones that may keep me alive someday. My training in the Army Reserves spent little time on land nav... but after this weekend I not only have a great foundation, but now I can practice this skillset on my own time as well. After taking this class I am certain you'll feel the same way.

Erik is the type of instructor that understands the importance of STRONG fundamentals. Having small class sizes, he is able to further work with any experience you may have. I highly recommend taking both courses to align with that fundamental development. I also met several other like-minded individuals that I know will be friends moving forward. I will be recommending True North Land Navigation to every individual I come across hoping to be more prepared in this chaotic world we find...
