I regularly hike the trails here because it is really the only place in Wisconsin Rapids that has anything hikeable. The trails are well laid out, bark chipped, primarily and it is nice to have a nature break at hand that's so readily accessable. Another way of enjoying the trails is by mountain biking, xc-skiing, or snowshoeing. It is also a nice place to walk with your dog, but be prepared to meet other dogs whose owners think that because their dog just "loves" everyone they are exempt from the leash regulation. "Well, I have my leash with me...." Doesn't help the wildlife etc. The Nepco Lake Shelter is beautiful. Highly recommend renting it for any events. There's nice bathrooms and kitchen prep area, serving area and tables and chairs to use. There is a swimming beach, changing house and rest rooms, water pump, nice playground, double boat launch, and canoe and kayak launch as well, but the scenery at the lake had changed dramatically. When the first "cabins" went in l thought well, maybe it won't be so bad but now I hardly even want to hike along the lake. The idea seems to be to take out as much of the previous natural beauty and plop down the biggest building we can think of. It's hideous, but perhaps you like gazing out at the lake and the concrete beyond. Not my thing. I feel bad for the eagles that used to nest there and the river otters that you could watch play near by. Amazingly there are still geese and even a pair of swans that persist in the cattail marsh. Not likely they'll be there for too much longer because right at the boundary of the park is another...
Read moreA beautiful man-make lake set in acres of pine forest. During the summer, there's swimming at a well-kept public beach which is free for everyone, and during winter there is ice fishing, including competitions and festivals. There is a medium-sized children's playground which is maintained and clean, and a hall which can be rented for private functions. Picnic shelters and public barbecues are also present, and a boat launching area which can be used for...
Read moreWe really enjoy kayaking on this lake. The park makes it very easy to unload our gear and get out on the water. Each time I've gone there I've seen park personnel out picking up trash and cleaning up the area (even though guests of the park should be doing there own part in that). I can't speak on the bathrooms because I've not used them, but they are there by the beach area. Over all not a bad thing to be said in our...
