Silver Strand State Beach — Attraction in Port Hueneme

You still need a pass. The most localized beach in the United States, if not the world, and despite the crowds on a weekend morning, the pecking order in the lineup is stronger than ever and things can go wrong quicker than ever, either in the water, in the parking lot, at house parties, or at Pepe's or the Corner Store. It used to be just surfers causing the problems but these days, especially during the pandemic, you can be vibed by any and everyone. As the Los Angeles sprawl slowly closes in around Oxnard, the locals have grown ever more protective. Simply put, if you don't pay taxes on Silverstrand, you are not welcome. Even if you buy a home, expect to spend years trying to nail down a spot in the lineup. The descendants of old school SSL rippers are even more fierce. The guys who ran the water in the '80's still run the beach and younger guys run the water with the exception of a few 50+ old school locals who still rip and still surf everyday. Silverstrand Beach is a tightly-knit family. You better know somebody. Anyone from any part of Oxnard is always welcome, of course. Oxnard has about 13 street gangs and they are all closely affiliated with Silverstrand locals as we all grew up together. Ventura County Sheriff's Department actually considers Silver Strand Locals (SSL) a street gang. The beach itself is referred to as the "one-mile miracle" , however due to the movement of sand over the years and the currents, much of the beach does not break like it used to. The Ship and the Jetty are shells of their former selves and the Bowl, due to lack of sand being deposited by dredging, suffers from a deep trench just offshore, like Hollywood and Shores...

VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

The clerk when we reserved never mentionned that the park had very strict gate closing policies. So when we called to announce ourselves to confirm our reservation, we got told that the gate was closing at 7 and that we had to find another spot for the night. When I called the state park reservation center they denied to refund me anything even tough they had never mentionned anything about the closong of the gates at 7pm.

The clerk on the phone mentionned that it was written in the email confirming our reservation. Having no internet connexion because our cellphones didnt have any datat we were never able to access...

Grew up here with much pride has never left my soul. Though our loyal localism isnt being enforced as it was years ago were still #2 in the world after pipeline that's saying a whole lot is there are tough beaches that you think would have beat us like BraBoys in Australia anyway I'll never forget I have personally been through and still down to defend our beach at all costs especially when someone's acting a fool because I can still regulate if I have to on the most part those days are long gone it's great to know we are still infamous we built that over many years thanks for...
