I love, love, love old theaters, even ones with subpar sound or outdated seats, etc (St. John's Cinema is one of my favorite spots in Portland to see a movie!). I'm willing to overlook a lot at these types of spots. But Moreland Theatre is in dire need of upkeep.
It's dirty, the sound is really bad, and the seating is literally falling apart. The lighting doesn't ever get super dark in the theatre itself, and there are no doors in the back, only curtains. So you're going to hear a lot of distracting sounds from the concessions area, etc.
The "plush red" seating in the rear of the theatre isn't tearing to shreds, but entire rows are loose, and when you move the slightest amount the chair squeaks. Maybe the owners could do a gofundme or kickstarter if they can't afford to at least get a janitor and...
Read moreTuesdays are $5 movie nights and they had one poor kid on staff running the whole front counter/snacks and tickets. Movie didn’t start until 8 (was suppose to start at 7:30) he paused the previews and made sure everyone got in which was fine BUT it was a 3 hour movie. They should have anticipated having a long line and at least had someone else help him! He was wonderful just wish he had a little more help to accommodate for the large crowd. My fiancé and I got our tickets early to make sure we got in and there was still a long line to get popcorn but again great theater just need more staff on $5 movie night! The theater is super updated you get the old theater feel but you have comfy leather chairs to sit in! Love the theater and love the Tuesday night...

The staff are very friendly, there are beer/cider/soda drink options and your standard movie theater munchies too. The place is pretty old so don't expect the comforts of a high-end megaplex, there are two different types of seats in the auditorium (old and older) and it can sometimes get pretty chilly inside so make sure you have a couple layers to ensure a...
