Secret charges and a dirty gym. 2.5 months in and just saw a secret charge on my card for $78.50. This is after paying a sign on fee and a monthly charge. The girl at the front desk let me know it's for my annual fee. I was never made aware of this when I signed up. I wanted to cancel the membership and I was told I would have to pay a "contract ending" fee or some bull#&"t like that. Even though I'm on a monthly membership. In order to do that I would have to talk to a consultant in person. This place is a rip. And massively passive aggressive and dirty. I've used the same shower stall a few days in a row and left a empty bottle of conditioner in the shower. It was still there three days later. The hot tub has been down for about two weeks running on lukewarm water and the sauna is medium hot at best. Many of the cardio machines have broken parts and the tanning beds are run down and old. The yoga mats are all super dirty and never get cleaned. Passive aggressive signs everywhere. It's also accepted for members to have conversations on speaker phone while working out and play their own music as loud as they want with no consideration for other members. So for the breakdown. I signed on 3/11 and was charged $68.00 right off the bat. The next month 4/11 charged $34.00 membership fee. Then today 4/23 I was charged another 78.50 for a yearly fee. Then I'll be charged another $34.00 on 5/11. That's a total of $214.50 (In just 3 months!) I've been charged so far on a membership that is supposed to be $34.00 a month. And apparently they can charge my card any amount they want without refund. And if I don't like it I have to pay even more money to cancel a gym membership that is based on a month to month plan. I think it's only right that the gym shows some transparency in their response by giving future potential members reading this review a full breakdown of all costs and the cancellation policy here. This is very much something they are not doing when you sign up. UPDATE (5/29): Cancelled my membership today. Went into the locker rooms. Looks like they haven't been cleaned in a few days. Hair and debris all over the floor. Over the past few weeks the sanitizer bottles for the cardio machines have been empty. Which means no one can wipe them down after use so they're all dirty. The pool has been down for at least two weeks now. The hot tub has been down too. and has been working sub par for over the last month (Not very hot). This place is gross. Today I went in to do some stretches and a little workout in the back room. They took a chain and lock so no one can use any of the mats or weights. IN A GYM you can't use the weights!!! That also means you have no where to stretch or warm up before your workout. I'll also mention they barely offer any classes so the room mostly just sits empty. UGH!!! Totally done...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE I was a member here for over 2 years. I actually really enjoy the gym itself. the trainers were good. and the general manager Jesse was a good guy. But the corporate culture does not care about you and acts like a shady subscription service. They will sneak in charges or allow things to persist even after you cancel them and continue to charge you. Then itās your fault and rather then simply make good on it to try to keep you as a customer, they will say they canāt fix the issue and be fine with you leaving. you will feel like just another number. I happily did tribe for a year. I knew I was going away for most the winter so I had my wife cancel it for me. they said it had to be in person and that a spouse can do this. She cancels and apparently a new employee makes a mistake and just freezes it for one month. Funny enough, they still charge me for that month! But whatās worse is since I think Iāve done what I needed I donāt realize Iāve been continued to be charge for another 3 months. 200 dollars later, I realize my membership is way over charging me. no worries right? they can see I havenāt signed in for over 3 months. with any company, Iām sure it will be as easy as pointing out the mistake and theyāll value having good customer service and just reimburse me for the mistake that is obviously not on my end. i mean, itās only 200 bucks, which is nothing for a company right? especially when they will make more each year by keeping me as a happy customer. wrong. they first tell me to email them the full situation and I do and they tell me they wonāt be able to make it right. then I call corporate and get the run around with several phone calls. then im told corporate canāt handle things in Portland and I have to talk to a local manager. then I go back to them and in the end am basically told to go screw myself. apparently the issue is someone at the very top, or a soulless corporate owner who is just this petty. Iāve heard similar issues have happened several other times. this is so beyond petty. Iāve never been so frustrated with a gym or any company for that matter. 200 dollars is noticeable for me, but itās not just that. itās more that the gym made a mistake and then decided to go with. a choice that feels like scamming me instead of just keeping a customer happy. And that they even noticed (multiple managers) that I was charged for an unused service, and just gave me the bs that there is nothing anyone can do about it. I keep getting told someone will call me or email me and make this right for weeks now. no one does. I didnt like that they never fix their sauans and take forever to get to down equipment but I can deal with that. however I will warn people who already go there and others to avoid this place until they show any effort to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSad to finally say that I cancelled my MUV membership after being a member for about 5 years. The gym was great from the beginning when I enrolled in August of 2020 then the gym just kind of went downhill for me. Gym started getting crowded. They were enrolling just anybody and I heard transients would come in and start looking through lockers and taking customers belongings. Then the Sauna caught fire because someone kept putting water on the hot rock machine, even though it states āno waterā. So the sauna is out of service and has never been available since. A lot of the employees have no gym etiquette and donāt teach their trainees gym etiquette either. The menās restroom floor has a divot in front of the sink, and thereās always water puddles, waiting for someone to slip and fall and bust their head.
Iāve been considering canceling my membership for many months now but since the location is in a spot where itās part of my commute, I havenāt cancelled because of that.
Today, I had a negative interaction with a male employee who has only been employed for several months. He is a trainer there because I recognize most of the employees there. I was switching from one machine to another and he happened to be on the treadmill. In between my sets I happen to just look around and he just waved his hands at me and gave me a weird look. I thought he was having at another employee because we had never spoken. He then later on approaches me with a coworker and says āHey I notice you staring at me and my other coworkers have notice you catching eye a few other times too, is there a problem? Cuz if there is let me know.ā I told him āno Iām just working out, thereās no problem.ā
I felt very uncomfortable at that moment. I have NEVER had any interaction like that before at any gym that Ive been a member at. I felt like I couldnāt even look around.
I spoke with a manager there, Cameron and told him about the situation and told him that I am considering canceling my membership because of an employee interaction. I told him, āI am here 4-5 days a week to work out. I come in to do my work out and I leave. I recognize many other members and employees that are here and we look at each other all the time and smile. We are in a gym environment and I hope we are all here with the same goals. Iāve been a member for 5 years and this is the first neg interaction Iāve had and it was with an employee.ā
I go to the gym to get away from stress and anxiety and to feel good. After today, I cancelled my membership and I am going to a gym where I donāt feel pressured to sign up for half ass training. A gym where I donāt feel intimidated by their staff. And loud blasting music to the point where I canāt even hear my own music coming from my noise cancelling headphones.
Itās been a pleasure, but itās...
