There are multiple good access points to paddle the Willamette around Ross Island, and it takes about 1-3 hours to do so. The currents are not terribly strong. So far I have done it once at dawn, which was very peaceful (heron, bald eagle, and many waterfowl to be seen), and once on a hot afternoon that was downright dangerous due to powerboaters widely ignoring no-wake areas. If using inflatable boats, exercise caution around the entire island as abandoned bits of metal and old pilings present many chances to put a hole in your boat.
