Peirce Island is a lovely place to walk around in the fresh breezes of the Piscataqua River. Portsmouth's decision to install a waste water treatment facility on the east end of the island was quite unfortunate as it cut off access to walking trails which were once off leash areas. No dogs are allowed now, on or off leash, just like nearby Prescott Park. Still, Peirce Island is a great place to bring kids (nice playground), enjoy the picnic shelters and hibachis on "Four Tree Island" with views of the river, the Memorial Bridge, and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
