Great place for self indulgence or quiet walks mostly during the warmer weather days. It's nearly unvibrantly still in winter but still in winter a great place for blissful walks the scenery is unfound next to the piscataqua River. Did I say quiet mostly during the morning hours of warmer weather,; well I meant it, most of the park about 2/3 maybe less are occupied by crowds coming and going from all around the park yes even boats to go to an event held by the theater, in the residing area on the outer skirt of the park about dead center on the right of the lavatories, singular one, man one woman's on a street that cuts the park in two (and yes they do have a family restroom and two large public restrooms men's and women's connected the sides of the tremendously chooseist food and snack stand which I don't find to be too overwhelming on the wallet and off course kid side stuff to and turn around from the tiny restaurant you could rent a private spot on the small deck and you could rent chairs too for a more comfortable viewing of a play same play all season 3 of the seasons anyway or which ever movie the park coordinators have screamed up ranging from G to PG17 raiting maybe even lite R raiting there is a pamphlet at most entrances of the park and a web site that has the agenda to every event being held in accordance to every night from the first week of April the the ending of October?!! I say ending of October because the is where the HALLOWEEN parade starts and ends. There are benches throughout the entire park three short docks that gut out into the piscataqua river it is a most amazing place for pictures, family fun if you bring your own entertainment, ((you can bring blankets for your viewing pleasure but I think you have to make a arrangements with the park conductors in advance or get there early to set one up look it I don't know!???)) or just bring blankets so you can picnic most picnic ers head to the second half of the park a little less foot traffic since there are walkways surrounding the park in walkways within with water fountains ( which I with that would find a way the fix the trident on the LARGE round one ) and a flower garden with the most beautiful trees I was told were cut down recently my favorite three in all of the city to after dark they would light them up. On the other half of the park I do believe is either a community and or volunteer space for flowers and fauna multiple beds and risers truly a sight to see for yourself I've been in this area of the world for 24 years now it allows amazes me that's not just the garden most of the park gets flower by park volunteers, city folk , sponsors, and others, some have small plaques of what the plants are and by whom Then you've got the Portsmouth naval shipyard across the bay and added to the serene backdrop are the three draw Bridges strutton across the piscataqua river to land on the shores of the oldest city in Maine -Kittery I've seen many many different moods the city of Portsmouth NH has gone through and some mood not so kind but the City only seems to get better throughout the years I...
Read moreToday I drove an hour and half to take my two young children to Peter Pan. When we finally got there, we had great trouble finding parking. Once we did, it was in a parking garage just around the corner from the park. The location was great. The sign at the garage said $10, Not bad I thought. So I parked, gathered up the kids and chairs, and went to the play. The advertisement said admission was free for those who dressed as pirates. They would not let us in without a donation. It was incredibly hot so I went to purchase bottled water, they charged me $2.75 for 1 bottle of water. After this we went and sat down and the play began. The acting by the older teens and adults left MUCH to be desired. There was lot of bickering between the parents, and childish complaining and trickery used on the smallest child from the father figure. A character I suppose was a nanny appeared for the briefest of moment with an attitude of impatience and irritation at having to care for the children, and who later reappeared in the children's nursery with her lover while the parents were out of the house and the children were sleeping. Once the story began to gain traction and Peter Pan arrived on seen, there was a moment where he interacted with both Tinkerbelle and Wendy. (Peter being the interpreter) Surrounded by very small children, Peter delivered a line as follows, "She says your a great big ass!" Unfortunately the insults didn't stop there. Peter delivered above line a couple more times before the seen changed and we arrived in 'Neverland'. There was character named Slightly Soiled. He was disgustingly crude and wildly inappropriate in his acting for this to be a play geared toward children. Once the intermission came, I picked up my kids and our belongings and left. I made my way back to the parking garage to get my car. We were unable to get in. Standing in there in the middle of the drive way into the garage, I had to leave my children and belongings to get the attendants attention. He didn't want to let us in. He did eventually, but not after telling us we needed to have our ticket (which I left in the car) validated by the park and that we shouldn't have parked here since it wasn't open to the public. He also informed us that we weren't going to be able to get out because the ticket wasn't validated, but that he would let us out for the now going rate of he valet, $20. Seeing that I had no choice if I wanted to get home, I paid him the $20 and left as fast as safely possible. I would not recommend taking children to these plays without first...
