This used to be one of our favorite spots for americanized sushi in the area, as they had a great selection, reasonable prices, and normally great service. Our last two visits have been horrible, however, and I doubt we will be back again with so many other food options. On our most recent visit, we were seated on the second floor, despite several open tables on the first floor and what appeared to be numerous wait stuff. On the second floor, they had two waiters handling around 12 tables, including a large part of around 15 people. After being seated, we didn't see any wait staff for 20 minutes. When they showed up, my wife and I ordered two rolls each, no drinks or appetizers, and then proceeded to sit for 50 more minutes while we waited for our sushi to arrive. During those 50 minutes, the wait staff checked on us once. I understand manning issues, call outs, etc, but this experience was similar to our previous visit. The rolls were fine, but the service ruined the experience. My wife and I only get time away from the kids about once a month, and when our night is drawn out because of small issues like this, it really ruins the overall vibe of the night. If you plan on making a visit, I'd recommended going during lunch hours when the crowd is much smaller and the staff can handle...
Read morei ordered the sushi combo- alaska roll and a tuna and avocado roll. it was so bad. the salmon tasted like farm raised which why it was so pale in color. it had no taste what so ever and the fish was warm. the tuna had no flavor as well. it was also a bad cut(the white) it is a tendon which is chewy and can’t be split by chewing down. it was 13 dollars and it was not worth the price. the salad that came w it was okay, you can’t mess up a salad with premade dressing. my friend got a sushi lunch box with pieces of sushi and a cali roll. the cali roll was okay since it was imitation grab and avocado plus cucumber roll. the fish itself was disgusting. we did not eat even half of our food. my friend got a miso soup instead the salad and it had ZERO FLAVORS. it came with 5 pieces of tiny tofu cubes, 2 sea weed peices tiny… and 3 scallions. it was not good. no flavor just salty. the building is straight up falling apart too. our waitress was okay, she did not talk and spoke when taking the order. 13 dollars for the combo roll and 17 for the lunch sushi box. that price for grocery sushi grade fish. worst sushi i’ve ever had. if you want good and reasonable priced sushi in portsmouth GO TO TOKYO SAIGON!!!
they changed ownership, no longer has the same taste to...
Read moreI was just perusing through some of the other reviews, and I will say any 5 star ratings for this spot seem impossible to me. Even if they were on their A game. I want to be fair because I have been to worse sushi spots, but this is not a place worth glowing reviews. Simply average, Sushi rolls were not that fresh and they really doused it in spicy mayo to try to cover that up. Results in the roll being loose and sloppy feeling. It wasnt awful, but it was not good. Also pretty expensive for what it is.
Staff asked me if I was ready to order within 15 seconds of sitting down, and when I said I needed a minute the waiter proceeded to stand right behind me (I was sitting at the bar) and didnt budge until about a minute had passed and asked if I was ready again.
Lastly the ambiance was terrible, they use bright white lights and everything is pretty stark and bare feeling inside. They have the big TV on the wall thing goin on too which obviously is not the move. Also I glanced over and notcied it looked like the windows hadn't been washed in years. Couldnt wait to pay and get out, there are a few othe local spots that are much better. Dont listen to anyone that says "this is the...
