Tyler has spoken to me every time i've come in and he interacts very well with the climbers. He is a pro climber, i've seen it. Now i've been in every day since the last update. I have used the walking machines and the stair climber machine, and the gym a little bit. I have been able to climb roots I never imagined i'm capable of. So this place also helps you feel much better about yourself. Because everything you do here will make you stronger and healthier. I haven't been in once without meeting a new person.Because all the climbers and employees are friendly. This is a community you must join if you want to meet some good people, up your climbing game, or just wanna climb with some strangers. It's even easy to climb alone if you don't want company. But if I see you, I'll be saying hello! Update: couldn't resist a third visit today. Beth and Owen helped me out with my new membership and buying shoes. So yes, this place rocks so much it only took two visits to get a permanent membership. I've been here twice, and it is the best. This place has every option for climbers, and it's a huge place. Super clean bathrooms, a locker room, a sauna... With a membership, you get everything, including the cold plunge tub, and a gym and a cardio facility. It looks like they even have daycare or at least climbing for children. Most of the associates said hello to us and were very helpful and friendly. Also, the other climbers were very friendly and we met a few new connections. Jenna and Tyler and Thomas were an awesome team and introduced us to the place for our first time in. I haven't climbed a rock in thirty years and it only took two sessions at Triangle Rock Club - Salvageyard, and i'm hooked. I know you can sign up for use online on their website. I know it's the most exciting and fun time I've had in a year living in north carolina but I also had my twenty two year old son visiting me for 3 days, showing me how its done (he's the climber). And by far the best workout i've had, core, back, legs, arms, shoulders, full body workout. If you want an incredible exercise session, a workout, if you're a climber of ANY level, or if you just want to go hang out in a really cool facility and climb on some manufactured. rocks.... all options are available at this place. And i'm definitely sold on a membership. I would say, no one could spend 2 weeks at this place and not come out looking like a rock star. I mean, literally half the climbers look like model fitness gurus, but the other half looked just like you and me. And finally, it's incredible. If you've never been to a place like this, there's zero pressure. The first time you walk in, you watch a little video. You sign a paper or something and within ten minutes, you're climbing whatever you want in the whole facility. Rental shoes included and you need nothing else. You just walk around the place and look for somewhere to climb up something. But you can go to every level from having a harness and having ropes, and then some thing that assists with climbing or with coming down. This facility is top level professional grade, yet no pressure for any of us.... beginner, to Mount Everest climber... climb five feet up to fifty feet or more probably. I'm a total beginner, and I felt completely welcomed by staff and members, and I just walked up to 1 of the walls and started climbing, like I was a kid again. Nothing but fun to have here. All the information on their website. Thank you for this place! Pretty much a brand...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBouldering - 5/5 Tons and tons of different climbs with many different styles. Down-climb holds are placed conveniently and are easy to hold.
Spray wall - 5/5 Great spray wall, my personal favorite for warming up on
Board Climbing - 3/5 the tension board is nice, but a larger one would have been nice for the size of the gym. Similar larger climbing gyms have multiple boards...considering this is the biggest climbing gym in NC, maybe some more boards/a bigger tension board would be nice in the future!
Top-rope 5/5 Great top-roping, the 47 foot wall is excellent, but even better that a shorter wall is also available. I haven't tried Lead yet.
Gym 4/5 Great gym. Geared more towards cross-fit, with few machines other than cardio. There were no safety racks a few weeks ago, but they may have added those recently.
The staff is friendly and very accommodating. It can get slightly hectic after work hours (5-7 usually). They do their best š
Bandaids and first aid are readily available at the front desk. You can also borrow an ATC and a carabineer to belay, which is nice.
Sauna and cold plunge 2/5 š the sauna can get pretty disgusting... the lack of showers makes the queue for showering sooo long... Some people skip the shower and go straight to the sauna. Stinky feet? Aw hell naw! there seems to be plenty of space for more showers. Even a foot washing station would be nice at the minimum š staff is rarely back there, so there's not much enforcement of the rules. The men's bathroom shower floors also get filthy after continued use. Dirt and grime everywhere. It would be nice to have some tools to clean up after yourself (or the person before you) when you need to shower.
The lounge area and the cardio room are great, nice places to chill.
Overall, great gym. Just hope the sauna situation can be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe male staff member that conducted my lead test was on a serious power trip. He was condescending throughout the test.
Iām mostly an outdoor climber (with several years and lots of technical experience). However- I have taken a few indoor gym tests and none have ever come close to as ridiculous as this. I was instructed to demonstrate a z clip and back clip. This seems super unnecessary and even dangerous. I can explain what they are- that should be enough. Iāve never done them in the real world- why should I now? Anyway- I did. Then he asked me why I shouldnāt back clip. I said because it could (in a very unlikely situation) come out of the QuickDraw. This still was not satisfactory. He asked how exactly that could happen and because I could not demonstrate- I failed then. No opportunity to demonstrate lead climbing or belaying in a safe fashion. I have caught countless whippers and lead climbed with no injury for years. Iāve climbed 20 desert towers.
Sure. I get it- you donāt know me. Thereās liability in the gym- you need to ensure Iām competent. I get that. But failing a test because I cannot demonstrate how a rope would come out of a back clipped draw is completely wild. I donāt back clip, I donāt z- clip, isnāt that enough? Really wanted to get in some fall practice to work on my mental game- super super bummed I was not allowed to lead climb in this gym.
The gym has really great route setting and variety of routes. Itās the cleanest climbing gym Iāve been to by far. I had a really sweet woman do my top rope test with me. The guy doing my lead test really did ruin the...
