I grew up going to an CME (Christian Methodist Episcopal) church. The services were long, but the church had a pulse, an energy, and it was filled with the Holy Spirit. I have been looking for a good church & my friend recommended I visit the church she’s been attending. She prefaced (warned) me that this was not like the churches we grew up attending. She’s right. I grew up hearing some amazing sermons & singing. I heard terms like flat foot singing whenever our choir sang. I remember getting chills when the choir sang. SSV is lightweight church. The choir is not good - one Sunday they attempted to sing Total Praise. They ruined it. It was the most terrible rendition. The music is not good. The preaching is more like a Ted Talk. The only reason I still attend the church, because the people are really kind. I don’t get any bad vibes from the pastoral staff or members. Please watch some of the past sermons on their YouTube if you’re planning to visit. I’m not being a hater, the music & choir are not good. Message to SSV: please get your music &...
Read moreI have been visiting SSV for 6 months. I enjoy the sermons and I am considering becoming a member. I prefer teaching sermons as opposed to the fire & brimstone preaching that I grew up with. My only criticism is the music and that's why I'm giving the church a 3 star rating. There's not an ounce of soul in the music or the singers. I have never heard such bad singing in a church - off key, flat, no emotion, no soul. Usually during the singing, I try to tune it out and pray or I'll make a bathroom run and come back when they're done. When service is over and I'm back in my car, I typically queue up one of my gospel playlists to get my music fix. I really hope the church improves the music soon. Aside from the music criticism, this is a great church with very...
Read moreI love how people from so many different backgrounds come together each week and foster a genuinely loving community. I appreciate how people take seriously the difficult challenges of Jesus, but do so with grace and humility. Real people dealing with the real challenges of life. I and my family have grown beyond measure because of our time with the SSV.
If you're looking for a church that values people from all walks of life, a place that will nurture your children, and a place that will challenge (and support) you on your journey with Jesus, the SSV is the...
