Friday morning and the place was full. I was able to get a seat right away. Marcia was our waitress. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the food. We ordered and the food came in no time. Catfish and crabcakes with crawfish with eggs and hash browns and a short stack of pancakes is what we ordered. The catfish was catfish first of all! No swai, catfish! It was battered and fried to perfection. It came with a sweet hot sauce that was very tasty. Quite tasty! The crabcakes were delectable as well. The sauce that came with them was good, but that hot sauce was banging! I put it on my eggs, which is something I never do. I asked for cheese on my eggs, another thing I hardly do because of the price, but they made it worth it. The eggs were fluffy. The hash brown potatoes came with cheese, but there was nothing special about them. They need some flavor. Some onion, green pepper or at least some smoked paprika. Alot of places pay no attention to the potatoes. I think it's a waste. The cheese was a start, but there could be so much more. Those pancakes... when they called them a short stack, they were right! The batter is something I heard the waitress talk about. Their specialty is French toast. The batter is different for each selection. The pancakes were okay. They had a little cinnamon but they were as flat as a fliver! I like my cakes fluffy! The atmosphere will not be what you remember. It is quite uneventful. Music played in the background with no real thought put into it. Clearly all the effort is put into the food. I'm not mad at that, but I would like to see them at least try, and here's why... our bill came to $75.07! I saw a lot of people working there. Hostess, waitress, one guy brought water, another brought the food, at minimum three cooking. That's a lot of folks! I was grateful that our food didn't take long and was piping hot. The portion size was pretty good. I ate only half my meal and plan to enjoy the rest tomorrow. I do recommend this place. It's not the place I will visit frequently but for a treat, it definitely isn't bad. I can't tell you about the coffee. I chose not to have any. I didn't have an occasion to visit the restroom, but the dining area was...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I went there for breakfast on Wednesday. We didn’t have to wait in line, which was good. The staff was nice and friendly. The restaurant was very clean. It was a little noisy. The food was not at all as I had expected. Although I had never been there, but I had heard all these great reviews about the Batter and Berries restaurant up north. But this experience was nothing like that of which I had expected. I ordered the Apple cinnamon waffle with scrambled eggs and hashbrowns. The food was cold by the time they brought it to us. The waffle was doughy and had too much cinnamon cooked inside it. The eggs were good and the hashbrowns were okay, although they could have been cooked a little longer. I had originally ordered bacon, but asked them to cancel the bacon and I ordered hash browns Instead. They gave me hashbrowns and bacon, but took the bacon off my check. I did not enjoy the food at all. I ended up bringing it home and it is still sitting in my refrigerator as of today. I know this is a new restaurant and they have to get all the kinks out, so I will allow them some time to do that before I go back to the restaurant again. The manager did come out and talk to us. He was very nice and polite. He asked how was everything. I explained things to him and told him the food overall was okay. I didn’t want to rat out anyone by saying the staff is slow and my food was cold. My girlfriend asked the waitress to bring her some tea three times and she never got it. All in all, it was not a very good experience. I was not at all impressed . I might give them another chance and go back in a couple of months to see if things have changed. I would just like to add that the food is way over priced. Everything is à la cart. A cup of coffee cost $4.25. My bill came to $31 and that is way too much...
Read moreThe hostess did not greet us. She just stared at us waiting for us to speak first. She seemed upset to be there.
Once seated, we waited longer for a server than wd did to be seated. Server gets us with a smile and recited the day's survivals so fast, it 5 hard to understand. It was like she wanted to get through it fast. She didn't ask if we wanted anything to drink. She took our orders and turned to walk away. We had to interject coffee and juice.
We waited a long time for our food. The table next to us complained about the wait also. While waiting, we noticed there was no silverware, napkins or beverages on the table. Our server did not check on us until well after the food finally arrived. I couldn't start eating because there was no silverware. My waffle was cooling off. She finally checked in. I mentioned I need silverware, coffee and syrup. She snapped "I was going to get them now!" She clearly forgot all those things but tried to spin in like that's the normal serving process. It was still a bit of a wait before she returned.
My son's coffee brisket sandwich was dry and he said the coffee sauce tasted burnt. My coffee tasted bitter and burned. The waffle didn't have sweet potato or chicken bits in the batter. The texture was mealy like corn meal and overpowering cinnamon and cloves or allspice flavor. The chicken breast was dry, very hard and under seasoned.
I've never had a complaint about my experience at the Lincoln park location. I was so excited for this new location because we drive in from Indiana. It's stiil ad drive but a little closer. I'll just have to drive up north for a good experience. I don't know that I will return to the Olympia Fields location. We didn't feel valued as customers. You never get a second chance at a...
