The TTP pedestrian / bicycle bridge that connects Browns Island (north side of James River) to Manchester (south side of James River) is a wonderful asset that serves IMHO to enhance and promote accessibility, healthy outdoor activity, and fun/adventure/discovery in downtown RVA. Not only does it link the north and south banks of the river, and the James River Park system (and paths/trails), but it also offers fabulous views / vistas of the RVA skyline, the falls of the James in RVA, and nature / wildlife that make the James River in Richmond such a treasure. It is a great place to visit on your own or with friends... and it makes taking in and enjoying the many interesting,, meaningful, and unique sites, and frequenting the many excellent food & beverage establishments in downtown & in Manchester by foot or by bike relatively easy & safe. It's certainly worth...
Read moreIf you haven't been go...best on a day of high water & blue sky. However one caveat - parking is increasing a tough sell...like everything else around Brown's Island the area is being overdeveloped, etc. Ex..the new amphitheatre, the giant monolithic CoStar Headquarters, & now with CNN's rating of Richmond as a No.1 go to City all is up for grabs...
It's one thing to sanitize Monument Ave. for racial harmony, ( I get it), but to continue to marginalize the natural beauty of the James River with more & more man made objects...enough. The view of the James & it's environs is breathtaking. However look back on the land... we're building too much..too many condo's, high rises, etc....One suspects most developers are none too concerned with balance or the natural contours of the land unless their...

Recommendations: (1) definitely stop in the middle and enjoy a view of the city, (2) best views from this bridge are at sunset, (3) if you want to make a loop walk using this bridge, start at browns island - head across the bridge away from downtown richmond - on the far side head up the stairs to the left and once you get to the top you will see a trail heading East along the top of the floodwall of the south side of the james river - take that walkway all the way to the 14th street bridge back towards richmond - and then once back on the city side of the bridge, head left (west) along the locks trail which will take you back to browns island. Love this bridge, offer my highest...
