I can’t say enough about this museum, especially about Mike Gross, who stayed with us throughout most of our visit and spoke to us about the area, his experiences and was amazing to talk to! He is a Vietnam vet and spoke about his experience there, and about his family and pointed out things to us about the museum that we would never have found out on our own. He was especially proud to show us the brick with his name on it that his family had purchased for him, and the other bricks engraved with the names of his friends that he had purchased. He played the Tet Offensive movie for us, and we could tell that it brought about some painful memories for him. He is truly a welcomed volunteer at the museum, and we are grateful to him for spending time with our family. Thank you for your service, Mike, and thank you for...
Read moreIf you have the pleasure of catching a volunteer by the name Mr. Gayen then you will be in for a treat. I may as well have had leprosy for the rest of the staff. The video downstairs on the Birmingham was incredibly well done and touching to say the least. I figured out how to play it myself as the staff downstairs was engaged in perpetual water cooler talk. The artifacts and history of munitions throughout the wars Virginians engaged in were very informative. Downstairs they have an art exhibit that is great, but the main exhibit upstairs won’t be ready until October as they reset from...

We lived on the canal and would always walk by the War Memorial and think of how beautiful it was, and our wedding day was nothing short of beautiful! Annie worked so hard to make sure we had the best day, and to her I am so appreciative. We had our ceremony in the amphitheater (we closed the road, which helped with the noise of passing car traffic). Our reception was tented on the upper terrace, with spectacular views of the river and city skyline, even with it being a rainy/hazy day. I cannot wait to continue to go back to the War Memorial for years to come to relive our favorite day! Highly recommend if you are considering renting the venue for...
