Mac's Fresh Market — Attraction in Ridgeland

This is our little market just around the corner. They don't have all the organic choices that we prefer, but the do have lots of interesting regionally sourced products (hot sauces, salsa, honey, sausage and more) and always surprise us with quality, interesting things to take home. Their organic options are improving all the time. Their produce section is small but really has everything we need, including a food selection of hot peppers and avocados. They have a nice little fancy cheese display, where I can pick up the Irish butter I like. They have the best prices I can find on many products, including coffee, which is sometimes half the price of Kroger. It's really nice to have this store so close. Near the produce section they have a shelf of items for a dollar, where I always pick up a jar of marinated mushrooms or charred red peppers. I like Mac's because the employees are always so polite, courteous, and professional. The meat cases are always stocked with fresh, good looking cuts of meat. The reason for the 3 stars is because of the installation of the self checkout lanes......I TRULY DESPISE self checkout lanes at every store that uses them. Self checkout lanes put people out of work. You want your customers to bring their hard earned money to your store and then act as YOUR FREE employee by using self checkout, all under the pretense that it is faster and/or more efficient......and I thought that Mac's (because Mac's seems so much like a mom & pop store) was so much more about the people than saving a...
