Northern Audio — Attraction in Ross Township

I purchased a pair of Klipsch Klipschorn loudspeakers from Northern Audio on Babcock Blvd. and these were recently delivered. Everything went perfectly! This may be all you need to know but if you are interested in more details and have the time, let me share my experience:

Purchasing a pair of loudspeakers of this size is no small task and warrants serious consideration and trust with whom you are buying from. General Manager Greg and owner Mark are two of the most knowledgeable people in audio that I’ve met in thirty years of doing this. I believe you can trust Mark and Greg to guide you to the right decision based on your needs. We are very lucky to have them in the Pittsburgh area.

Mark and Greg allowed ample time listening and addressed any questions I had (which were numerous). I received timely status updates during the short time waiting for a fresh build from Klipsch at their factory in Hope, Arkansas (yes, in continuous production since 1946). Installation by Greg and team was problem free yet no small task and an important part of the buying process (each speaker weighs 220 pounds). Greg will be working with me to further optimize the sound (placement, false corners, etc…).

Yet, we’re already near perfection. As it is, the Klipschorns are best loudspeaker I’ve owned and this is among many legendary loudspeakers I’ve owned. Aesthetically, Klipschorns enlarge the room by being tucked away in the corners. Sonically, they are quite room-flexible given their controlled directivity. Technically, they provide the widest of dynamic range with only the smallest amount of power required. They check all the boxes. Greg had explained these finer points and upon extensive listening at home, he was right.

i recently confided in northern audio to calibrate and fine tune my 16 channel reel to reel. it is a lesser-seen complex recording deck (wherein every component is packed in a relatively small body) which requires a great deal of dexterity and knowledge to operate on.

northern audio's tech gave the machine a thorough inspection, replaced what needed to be replaced and made sure everything operates properly... in a timely fashion and for a very affordable price ;)

my machine is quite heavy so they offered to deliver my machine to my house for no additional price. please note: i live relatively close to their headquarters so this courtesy shouldn't be expected for everyone. but come on man, if they fly your gear, leave them a tip!

i'll likely be leaning to northern audio as my go-to consultant / repairman for any tech issues i encounter on my analog recording journey. i actually took a break from recording to type this....

Recently, I had the opportunity to go down to Northern Audio to participate in a Klipsch promotional event. While I didn’t purchase anything (went with some friends out of curiosity), I probably will be buying something from them in the future. Greg, the General Manager, presented an incredible demonstration featuring speakers, amps and various ancillaries. It was a breathtaking experience. I found Greg (and Mark, the owner) to be both incredibly knowledgeable and super friendly. During the presentation Greg not only demonstrated a vast knowledge about the gear, but he also shared wonderful information regarding the particular music he was playing. I found the demo both exhilarating and very informative! Durning our stay both Greg and Mark were open to any and all questions, were very generous with their time and were extremely relaxed (there was no pressure to buy anything).
