First and foremost let me say that i have been to dozens of hobby shops, and geek dens in my life. Since i was a little boy to the present day i have engaged with numerous hobbies in different cities and states. From Magic the Gathering to D&D, Yu-Gi-Oh and at one point in high school Warhammer; and I can say emphatically that I have NEVER had a better experience than at this store. When I decided to take the plunge back into Warhammer as a Hobby in August of 2024 I didn't really know what to expect out of this store other than the fact that the Manager, Lucas, was a swell guy. Funnily enough, my girlfriend met him first in pursuit of a christmas present for me the year before and had told me as much about him. I can now confidently say almost a year later that "swell guy" is one hell of an understatement. I have never experienced someone with so much passion, expertise, dedication, and kindness operating in a Geek/Hobby space like this, and as I mentioned above I've been around the block. Never before had I experienced someone so dedicated to making a space as inclusive, welcoming, fun and casual, as Lucas.
What really turned me into a repeat customer and patron was my experience with how he managed the christmas gift exchange that year, he and I had a lengthy conversation about how it was important that the more generous volunteers be assigned kids, younger people and folks that were newer to the hobby, as they stood to gain the most from a gift exchange, and that the generosity of a stranger can leave a lasting impression on a young mind that creates a positive lifelong bond and love for the community and the hobby. I explained to him that an experience like that had deeply influenced me and that I wanted to return the favor and impart that experience on someone else, he eagerly facilitated this and I'll always cherish the excitement i saw on the face of the young man I was assigned upon opening his gifts. That alone will always make this store special to me and I hope that y'all will give it the chance to do something similar for you.
I know this has been a lengthy explanation so let me close by addressing some of the negative feedback I read in other reviews.
Firstly, when people refer to "the guy there at the time", or "one of the employees" you are talking about Lucas and only Lucas. The store is a one man Show and GW has very strict policy regarding situations where a temp or another employee can be brought in. If you take issue with that I understand, but try to demonstrate a little grace, running a store by yourself is no easy feat.
Secondly, people referring to busy Saturdays and terse interactions with Lucas. For people who may be unaware the big army releases and hot new pre-order items always go live on Saturday. I must emphasize that these pre-order sales can close out in SECONDS, I've seen it first hand, if Lucas asks you to be patient so that he can help a pre-order customer first, that patience can be the difference between someone getting the cool new model or not, be a team player and a cool gamer and just give it some time.
In closing give this store a visit if you are interested in anything within the wide realms of Warhammer, maybe we'll be able to chat about a shared love for a character or play a pick up game.
Much love and be kind to...
Read moreIn Short: Lucas manages a great store and is the ambassador to the Warhammer hobby that I wish every game shop had. He's approachable, engaging and asks excellent fact finding questions to help out. I can't help but think of a warm smile and the question "Did you have fun?" when I think about coming into the store. This space is inviting, inclusive and authentic.
The Long Version: He helped me get into the hobby and directed me towards things that he thought I'd enjoy after asking me questions about what I like and if I had read any lore. This was in an effort to guide me towards Warhammer 40k factions that mostly lined up with strategies I like and to help steer me away from strategies I dislike. It was great.
For the non-gamer? My fiance has been in here with me several times and her and Lucas have talked about the painting and diorama aspect of Warhammer. She has no interest in playing but likes to paint and do artsy things and we were able to get advice on things that would work out great for that.
Recommendations: Ask Lucas about one of the Kill Team box sets and split it with a curious friend. The small skirmish game has plenty of depth with a small financial footprint. A wonderful way to dip your toes into the grimdark future. Take him up on a free painting/building lesson while...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing location. Visit if only to chat with the manager Lucus. This was my first visit to a warhammer chain store and I expected to pop in take a look around and maybe pick up some models my local game store didn't carry. Instead I spent hours geeking out with Lucus over lore. He was incredibly knowledgeable teaching me details about my areas of interest I had never heard of and providing excellent recommendations for books and videos to check out. I never once felt pressured to buy anything (though I did make a big purchase at the end of my visit because they had a limited set I had been wanting that was out of stock everywhere near me.) Lucus made me feel like the center of his attention even as he help other patrons that came and went. His friendly demeanor and magnetic charm lead to every stranger in the store joining in conversations sharing stories and jokes. It honestly felt like visiting an old friend despite having just met. I will definitely be returning here as often as I am able despite the 4 hour drive. This is the place to go for friendly, professional, and fun help...
