Mooyah recently opened up a new location in the University Oaks Shopping Center in Round Rock. It was a gutsy call to put another burger join within spitting distance of In-N-Out, Mighty Fine, and McDonald's. Having never experienced Mooyah's before, I wanted to give them a try for lunch today. The inside is typical of what you might expect in a burger place. Benches, tables, and booths were plentiful today and there were enough tables open to accommodate the traffic. Parking is a bit challenging as this shopping center has become the premier destination in north Round Rock for lunch. TIP: drive around back, plenty of parking in that area. The ordering process took much longer than it should. We were third in line and waited over 10 minutes before I was able to place my order. I'm hoping that this is due to the soft opening and not indicative to what we should expect. The burgers are cooked to order and arrived within a reasonable amount of time. There are plenty of toppings to add to your burger at no additional cost and for just under $6, I feel that the burger was reasonably priced. These burgers were very tasty, with a thin patty cooked on a flat top grill. The fat on the burger nicely caramelized on the edges, just the way I like them. They reminded me of burgers back from my childhood and the only place nearby that cooks burgers like this. The fries were another story. They were very similar, almost identical, to Five Guy's fries and to me, that's not a good thing. They were terrible and I will never order them again. I will return to Mooyah's next time I want a thin, crispy burger, but it's not someplace I would go out of my...
Read moreThe food was very good and the customer service was EXCEPTIONAL. I can't remember the last time I went to a grab and go kind of restaurant (or really most restaurants) and had a server that left such an amazing impression that I felt compelled to leave a review mostly because it was such a stand out experience. It's kind of hard to describe until you see it, but Alysen radiated an amazingly friendly warmth, sported a constant big, genuine smile, and had an enthusiasm for her job and interacting with customers like you would see in a training video but never actually see in real life! She is really a gem and they are so lucky to have someone like her being the face of their restaurant because she sure left a great impression that wouldn't let me rest until I complimented her manager on the service and left this review!
Our burgers were very tasty (especially the mushroom and Swiss), the sweet potato fries had a delicious seasoning on them, and the shake was good, too. The BBQ bacon burger seemed pricey for the size ($7.29 for quarter pound), but everything else seemed average pricing ($5.99 for mushroom Swiss burger, $4.19 for sharable size sweet potato fries, and $4.99 for a large Oreo shake). The food was made fresh when we ordered it so there was a little bit of a wait, but it meant our food was still hot and fresh when we got home to eat it 20 minutes later. All in all a...
Read moreAir conditioning??? Food was good, staff and service much better, made the experience bearable. BUT, make sure you dress lightly, not like you wouldn't anyway during our heat advisory. Inside or out, the temperature is the same.
I asked our server, who treated us and made us feel as if we'd been friends forever, "why is soooo hot in here"? Being very apologetic, she exclaimed the air has been in and out for month. Said they have been working on it, but no real progress is ever made. Btw, although this restaurant is located in a strip mall, the a/c issue is only experienced in this particular business because afterwards we went next door to shop and cool off.
The only thing left to say or ask is how can an owner/operator who is really lucky to have such a great team working for them, let their staff suffer and work an entire shift day to day in conditions such as this?
Maybe next time I want good burger, diablo hot dog and well seasoned, crispy fries, I'll return during the winter months. But quite honestly, it would be more so to hopefully see the same great, personable staff still working there. Hopefully, they're...
