Habatat Galleries was established in 1971 in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan. We are the oldest and largest gallery in the United States devoted exclusively to artists working with glass as their medium. Our 12,000 sq. ft. Michigan gallery is the home of the original International Glass Invitational, which for 43 years has introduced and exhibited the greatest artists working creatively with glass. Our mission is to service collections both public and private. We take an active interest in developing collections and promoting artist whom we feel should be recognized in our generation and beyond. I happened to stumble upon free tickets to their 52nd opening Gala online when searching up things to do in Detroit. I'm so glad I went. The exhibition was beautiful. Easily spent two hours looking at fabulous glass works of art from artists around the globe, all for optional sale. Some artists were also present and answered questions. They gave us little star stickers to place on small cards next to the pieces we liked best. I had no idea so many techniques could be used with glass. Such a lovely evening. This event that offers the most extravagant visual experience that immerses you in the incredible world of the glass art medium. We were overwhelmed and amazed with all the fantastic, world-class glass art. The experience was enhanced by the many artists and staff walking around who were all so very friendly and willing to share their passion for this art. Truly a hidden gem in RO.
