This is hands down a gorgeous and well-maintained cemetery. You really feel that this is a historic place when you’re here. The architecture of the statues and gravesites, the gorgeous landscaping, the nicely carved out paths, to the historic/important people buried here take you to a place where you feel strangely comforting. Our literary tour started from here, and we saw the graves of Joan Didion’s family. We even read from one of Joan’s books as if we were paying homage to everyone buried here, for the lives they’ve led, with their joys and sorrows. It’s a great place, to come and reflect, and spend a day either by yourself or with a group. A cemetery doesn’t sound too touristy, but I highly recommend this place. I believe they’ve roses inside the cemetery, which are among the best in California. They’ve a few parking spots inside as well.

The Sacramento area has many interesting historical places to visit. I've started to visit all the places I have on my list. After the old Sacramento district and the State Capitol, this is the third place on my list. I personally love old historical cemeteries. Whether they are pioneer or military cemeteries. To walk around and find and read the headstones of people and to ask what is your story? From Arlington to Gettysburg and the punch bowl and many others if you are interested in monuments like this, then you must visit. It is a beautiful well kept cemetery. Many pioneers,, politicians and prominent families from the history of California.

Really nice cemetery, as far as cemeteries go. Founding father of Sacramento, including John Sutter I f anything is vandalized they repair it right away. Everyone that works there is extremely nice and helpful. I really enjoy coming here, it's gorgeous and well maintained. Some spots are even picturesque. We were homeless last year after being in a haboob, followed by wildfires and lost EVERYTHING. I found my peace here. Warning though. Those gates will be locked, right on time. Don't be one of the many that was locked in here, LOL

This place is beautiful and, most of the time delightfully empty of people. I don't think this is the hip place to go for most people, but if you are a history nerd like me you will love it. Great place to take a walk by yourself.... very interesting and old headstones and an interesting layout of plots. I can walk around there for hours and look at all the names as just ponder about each one of the lives buried beneath. It is fascinating.

But, honestly, you don't have to be into history or gravestones or whatever to enjoy it-- it truly is peaceful, quiet, beautiful, and anyone can appreciate that. Best time to go is during the weekdays of you can-you'll have the place to yourself.

Next time you're on Broadway and have some time, take a look. It really...
