Love this dog park and the community. It is diverse, like Sacramento. There are fenced areas for below 25 pounders and above 25 pounders. The large dog side is above two acres. Water for dogs and usually a bowl or two and sometimes a pool. Most of it is decomposed granite, which is great for keeping nails naturally trimmed. Come if you are OK with diversity in owners and politics, and are ok with dogs being dogs. Don't come if you want to meet people of specific stripes, or are very nervous about your dog's behavior and other dogs. The dogs feel the anxiety. Fall winter and spring-the park drains very well from rain. There are bugs that can be picked up around the grassy periphery. Late spring and summer-The grassy area goes brown. Shade is limited and there are foxtails and thistles. The city does a pretty good job cutting down problem weeds, but it seems to be only once every few weeks.

The riverside part of this park is beautiful. We parked at the dog park nearby and walked in, but there are closer parking areas that you might want to check out. What made us nervous was the number of vehicles people are living in on these parking lots. No bueno. Lock everything obviously but make sure nothing can be seen inside your car. After we parked we made our way down to the river. Near the entrance there were tons of people sitting on the beach and enjoying the water. We walked about 5 minutes away and from then on the beach was empty. The views were gorgeous and the water cool - perfect for our dog to enjoy. We will definitely go back. Fair warning there are people living on the opposite bank in tents. Crazy. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Love this place! The dog mom's, auntie's, dad's, uncle's, friends, and walkers are REALLY nice people. Super respectful. And the park is BIG. There are little pools for both dog park sides. There are also more mature trees and sitting areas for shade. The patrons even will bring extra balls/toys, shovels for waste, and extra doggie waste bags. I've observed friendships made at the park carried outside the park. I like it better than the 19th Street bc I can get a huge ball throw in and my girl RUNS! I also prefer it over Phoenix. Phoenix has grass and bees and very little shade. I love this dog park and so does Lulu!

This dog park is great because of its size, the location, the 2 fenced off areas that are in place for small dog owners and big dog owners to let their pups play makes it nice for small dogs to play with pups their own size. I'm glad my girl can be on the big dog side and run. There are some spots of shade that you have to strategically sit under depending on the time of day, and they have benches and random chairs too. Garbage bins to dump poop with scoopers as well if you forget your bag. Some small trees have been planted that will be gorgeous when they grow more and plenty of water bowls, balls and a kiddie pool that is gross and unmentionable but that means the dogs love it! There isn't any grass which is why it's not a 5 star park--the dogs get real dirty fast and he bark can hurt their paws. People are friendly for the most part. We've been going enough that we've made some friends which is great. I enjoy talking to people as I'm new to the area. But I do think owners need to keep an eye on their dogs more and enforce training commands. I have seen more than one big dog turn aggressive on another and some have come up to my girl and crossed the line of rough play to dangerous. She's a submissive and incredible with other animals including cats so when she gets scared I know it's too much. Kudos to those who pay attention to their 4 legged kids rather than their phones. SF had similar problems but it seemed because having a dog was a privilege, dog owners there were more attentive. I didn't see...

I'm new to the area and was a little apprehensive about taking my dog to a new place. He tends to look a little aggressive because he has not been socialized so much. So he doesn't really know how to make friends. I keep him leashed and muzzled to keep others comfortable and until he relaxes then I took off muzzle. The parking could use a little help because it is difficult for my mom to get there and the walk is long using her walker, the trail is smooth enough for someone with a walking chair (not standard walker). The water is nice (little cold) easy to access not too strong of current, and under water is soft to walk not rough and rocky. There is shaded areas to sit, Bring a blanket there are no benches that I saw. There were people that walked further along I can't comment about the access further up or down from the main beach I was on. There were only myself and 3 others there, nobody seemed to mind my dog at all as he was very well behaved, this was his first time learning how to swim and he loved it. Right before we left another lady brought her dog and was throwing the ball for hers, when my funny boy saw that he got very excited and wanted to play ball. However it was time to go.. it's been 4 days and he has had his ball in his mouth sitting by the door waiting to go back... I think today is a good day to take him back with his ball😁. I am very happy that I have found a place to take my four...

So. There's so much to unpack at this park.

It's got a skate park that desperately needs funding.

The dog park is horrifically moronic. People send their dogs to run around on gravel when less than 100ft away there's 100x the size of lush green grass that's already fenced in, but its private property which is doing absolutely nothing. The stupidity appears to be local to sacramento because the newest dog park is also all gravel. If you have a dog and bring them there, it's really bad for their feet, which is obvious when they have bloody paws. But the dust kicked up is gonna be the thing that kills your dog. Dont torture your dog at this park. Walk down to the river, it's nice sand and cool water. The dogs love it.

Which brings up the river and the walk. Its trashed. Kids rage parties and dont clean up. Homeless do the same. This place is very close to me and hot summer days my dog needs it. I've made it a tradition to always bring a garbage bag on my walks and always its completely filled in no time at all. Sacramentos 30k homeless live here. It's very evident. If walking the trails I recommend staying close to them....
