Super impressed with this place. It's enormous, there are hundreds of boulder problems. The setting is incredible, obviously the setters are passionate about climbing. There were many dynos, comp style problems, and plenty of slab and overhang. The gym is very large, almost impersonal because of its size. It's not cozy, has a warehouse feeling. But everything about the gym is awesome. There is a bar serving Coffee and Tea, as well as alcoholic beverages. The staff was very friendly, it appeared there were only two staff, front desk and bar tender. The crowd was fun. It was easy to make friends.
I got a day pass without gear for $25. It's a good value considering the variety of training you can do here. All styles of climbing are represented. There are training boards, a weightlifting and calisthenics area, a dedicated children's area, and fully equipped bathrooms and showers.
The walls have a lot of texture so it's easy to smear. I loved the variety of holds, including very expensive holds. There was a good mix of plastic and fiberglass. They do a color grading system, so all of the problems of one color are in the same grade range. That made it easy to go right down the wall and do a circuit.
If I lived here I would definitely be a member! I had a great time, and highly recommend you check out this gym if you...
Read moreA spacious bouldering gym with wonderful routesetting.
The gym is very clean - from the bouldering area to the workout/training area, to the bathrooms.
The boulder problems (or routes, if you prefer) are set very well, with creative, technical movement, even on the easy problems. This is a huge plus for me, as I have a couple of finger injuries and am mostly climbing around V1-4 or so. This also makes things interesting for beginners; the problems are more interesting than the ladder-like problems commonly seen in other climbing gyms.
I can't speak to their coffee or beer selection, but the kombucha was pretty tasty.
The training area is excellent, with equipment from kettlebells to bands, and it included a selection of 5 different hangboards, an extensive campus board area (rungs, slopers, and balls), and a Moon board + Tension board, not to mention a huge system/training wall for making up your own training problems and moves.
I very much enjoyed my first time here, and if I didn't live an hour away, would most certainly visit here more often.
Cheers to Carlo and his crew for setting up an awesome place to climb, train,...
Read moreThe Boulder Field is literally the BEST place here in Sacramento for people that like to only boulder like myself! I stopped by here last week to check out the place and was shown around by Mary; her and the staff were so nice and very knowledgable about the questions and concerns I had for them. What is awesome about this place that I saw is they have lots of space for your personal belongings; awesome seating so you're not sitting on the padding in an awkward seated position; and best of all the bar that has coffee, kombucha, and beer! They also have a training area to get your wrist stronger, free weights, and yoga if you're interested on doing something other than climbing.
One thing that stood at to me as an avid climber was the grading system. Unlike the regular bouldering rating system, they have their own unique system by color so you aren't worried about what you level your climbing, which helps push yourself to the limit!
Lastly another great thing about this place it is much cheaper than other competitors, which obviously is nice for someone that doesn't want to worry about price but just...
