Magen's Bay and Lindquist beach watch out, Sapphire Beach, keeps it real by not charging to access it and may steal all of your visitors. This beach is one of our favorite beaches on St. Thomas.
Located on Sapphire Resort, entrance and parking is free! Let the security guards know at the resort entrance that you want to go to the beach and they'll direct you to it and parking. The parking lot is a rocky make up your own parking spot thing and the beach is about a minute walk away. Find the "dogs not allowed on beach" sign and the entrance is near.
What I love about this beach besides it being free are the trees (sea grape trees-you can eat the dark purple fruits) for shade, Sapphire Beach Bar that serves delicious blended drinks and Sammys ( a server walks up and down the beach to deliver orders) and it's just not as crowded. You also have amazing views of the cays, St. John and Tortola and Jost Van Dyke in the distance.
There is a plethora of motorized and non motorized options. Next to Sapphire Beach Bar is a rental area for snorkeling gear, beach chairs, kayaking, SUP, and windsurfing. The marina on the other side offers jet skiing and parasailing. There is fantastic snorkeling here, and the fish are larger and a lot more colorful than what you see at Magen's. Facilities like rinse and shower stations as well as bathrooms are well maintained by the resort.
The only downside is that it's a bit rocky in the water and if you have sensitive feet you may want to wear reef walkers.
Overall one of the best places to spend your time at while...
Read moreI always read reviews before going somewhere, I usually find them very helpful. In this case it’s the opposite. I thought we were going to a really nice beach, relaxing, good options for bathrooms and a beautiful beach. Here is my take: first off check the cruise ship arrival guide and if any cruise ships are in port, stay far away from this beach. The day we went, it was packed from 10am to 4pm. It is not a quiet beach. You have to enter through a bar/restaurant and they pump out super loud music that isn’t even good. Chair rentals start at $15 and there are cabanas for $25 a person. If you rent a cabana you cannot eat or drink anything you may have brought with you. The beach is narrow and I would highly recommend beach/swim shoes as it’s a rocky entry with a small drop off to get into the water. If this beach had hardly anyone on it and minus the blaring music, it would be beautiful. The views are great but unfortunately it’s way too busy. The picture is at the end of the day so imagine 4 times as...
Read moreI am going to give "the beach" five stars because (after going to give different beaches in St Thomas) this one takes it. However, when I say just the beach I mean it. There's only one food place and one bar here, the food is disgusting and the bar is extremely overpriced. So Bring your own drinks. The main problem is the chair system they have which is very VI; racist. If you are staying in Sapphire Condo then you can use the chairs to the far right (facing the beach) but if you are staying in the Coral resort then you can use -for free- the chairs to your left facing the beach. However, if you are staying in Sapphire Village or the other one the you cannot use either BUT there's no way for them to tell so I did an experiment. I (a brown skinned guy) took two chairs from the Coral place and the lady immediately came up to me and took them away. My husband (a white man) did the same thing a few days after and she had no issues. I witnessed the same thing happen for many people during...
