We booked our 1 bedroom room with balcony through Airbnb. Our experience with the host was incredible and their unit was very clean and beautifully appointed. As others have mentioned the condo location is very close to Red Hook and about a 25 minute drive to downtown Charlotte Amalie. This is pretty much where the âhitsâ end.||||Youâll need a car rental or to spend a lot of money on taxis to get anywhere from here. While Red Hook (nightlife, restaurants, groceries) and the ferry terminals are incredibly close - is not walkable. In fact it is quite dangerous. There is no shoulder and folks drive somewhat recklessly. Taxis charge per person each trip so youâre looking at $20 RT ride for 2 ppl minimum when it could be a 10 minute walk. And that WHEN you can get a taxi. During our 1st and 2nd day taxis were plentiful near the main entrance then became scarce or non-existent thereafter. I attribute this to the impending tropical storm which never arrived but did bring occasional heavy downpours and strong winds at times. You are likely to get stuck here. ||||There were just a few very limited food options - Sudiâs, the cafe and pizza shop. Many of them closing before early evening. The main pool was closed for renovation during our stay. The 2nd pool was a steep climb up a hill - as are several amenities on the property. ||||The exterior of property is shabby looking and in need of updating. Interior rooms will largely depend on the condo owner. We lucked out with a great room and host. The Sapphire Beach section is much nicer with a resort feel. Closer to the beach and restaurants with free access to beach chairs. Sapphire Village guests do not get free chairs and have to rent them. ||||And lastly and most annoying (primarily a USVI thing and not necessarily exclusive to Sapphire) we experienced 6 power outages during our 5 night stay. Two of them lasting 2 or more hours. There seems to be a real issue with the power authority on the island. The condo does have a back up generator which powers the hallway lights and outlets when this happens. ||||I only stayed here because Margaritaville was booked and this place was a little closer to town. Could be a good option for folks who prefer to stay in and enjoy a quiet and subdued vacation experience with not much to do. But...
Read moreWe rented a one bedroom studio in the Dominica Building on the first floor. It had just been fully renovated and was absolutely beautiful. Our balcony faced the marina with a fantastic view.
The property itself is well maintained. Very clean and cared for. It has 2 swimming pools and a short walk to Sapphire Beach. There is a restaurant on site called Slice VI, which serves lunch and dinner.
You are approximately one mile from Red Hook which is very convenient. In red hook there are quite a few restaurants and Moe's grocery store. You are also about a 5 minute ride from Food Center which is a larger grocery store. In Red Hook you can also catch the ferry to St John or the BVI.
I would suggest renting a car as it makes exploring the island much easier. There is a safari bus that stops up the hill right in front of the property and it costs a couple of dollars to get to Red Hook. You also have the taxi option.
One tip...walk along the dock of the marina, all the way to the end, then go out the gate and you will have a fantastic view that is 100% unobstructed. It was absolutely breath taking.
I enjoyed it here so much that we will be returning to the same...
Read moreCame to St Thomas with 26 friends all staying in Sapphire Village VRBOS.|Some stayed waterfront and other higher up overlooking entire resort. The entire island was destroyed by a hurricane many years ago and is still being renovated. Looking past that, it really is everything you need. Rustic at times yet modernized. Our unit had a stove top, fridge, sink, comfy bed and couch with TV. Views, weather and staff were outstanding. The owners responded immediately to our minimal issues and everything went well afterwards. There are a few bars, restaurants, pizza, coffee and ice cream and marina on grounds to enjoy or bring your own food and drinksnto the beach or pool. Gas and charcoal grills available too. We shopped in town, cooked in the room and poolside also grabbed one of many cabs to town for shopping, sightseeing, libations or dining. You can do as much or little as you want. Some friends worked from their deck or beach chair while others played. Ferry to nearby islands hike, explore or just...
