I grew up eating Japanese food so it's my privilege to be able to cook Japanese food for my all-American husband. Tokyo has quite a few selections for the best ingredients and fresh products. It's rather pricey, but when I think of the convenience of having a Japanese food store within such short distance, I can't complain. It's a great place to buy a little souvenir for your friends and loved ones too. I speak Japanese so I aways talk to the owner in Japanese, and it's a breathe of fresh air to converse in Japanese in a town like Salinas. She gives me suggestions, and keeps me updated on products sold there. I normally visit in the morning so there won't be any crowd since it's a relatively small store. The foods and drinks sold in this store are authentic - almost every label on the packaging will say "product of Japan" and "shipped from Japan" (just to be specific). The variety is marvelously wide, both in category and in flavor. You'll find everything from Yan Yan and melon flavored mochi to dried crabs and fresh octopus. Moreover, a wonderful array of trinkets and other items can be found, including origami, printed chop sticks, tea sets, and bento boxes. If you want to buy some seasoned seaweed or you want to experiment making Japanese food this is the place to go it is so clean and the lady that is the owner is such a nice. I personally go there to load up on healthy snacks that my 17 year old will actually eat so if you're looking for a good Japanese cuisine and you're going to prepare it for yourself go there and buy all the food the knick knacks that you need to make the food...
