I used to like Lucy’s when I would drop my dog off for daycare. My dog would come home tires but ONLY if I time it right. I have to be sure to drop him off very early 8 am or mid afternoon 3pm...if not they will lock your dog up inside a cage from 11am to 3pm sometimes longer. I don’t think that’s cool but I dealt with it.
On thurs 6/27 I had my dad drop my baby off to stay for 3 days, I was already nervous as I had not been away from him overnight before so I knew he would probably be a little scared.
1st day he was dropped off, he played outside with the other pups for a while then periodically when I kept checking the webcam, he would be in his cage and when I called to ask why he wasn’t playing with the dogs they said “we bring the pups that look tired and hot inside to get a break” 😒 so you bring my dog in and leave all the other dogs outside....ok makes sense(Not).
Not once did I see the snacks I left for him in his room and I had to remind them they my dog needed a last minutes potty break before they LEAVE THE DOGS ALONE OVERNIGHT. So he doesn’t potty in his room.
This irritated me a little as I felt they just kept him caged all day cause there was one too many dogs for 1 “attendant” to just STAND around and watch them. They don’t even interact with the freakin dogs.
Because of being out of town for vacay I tried not to stalk the webcams like I had been doing,
Then the third day (Saturday) is when they lost my business. I wake up and check my dog on the camera, it was around 8:30 am and he wasn’t in his room so I thought “cool, he must be outside playing with the other dogs. I check back again at around 9:30...and guess what!?
He was back in the cage, while all the other dogs were outside....Again, I’m wondering why he is not outside playing. I called to check to see why he was on the cage and o kid you not, I tried calling them and they WOULD NOT answer the phone. I literally called them like 10 times over an 1 1/2 hour period, mind you my baby is still in the cage looking in distress. I was so furious and on the verge of tears because I could not get ahold of anyone.
So I eventually got so desperate I called the Thousand Oaks location to see if they can reach anyone there and a sweet women (Miranda) from the Thousand Oaks location...she attempted to individually call employees at the location and no answer.
Someone finally got ahold of me and said that my dog had been in the cage damn near all day because of “Excessive mounting” which I was told they have “zero tolerance” for so my dog was basically being punished by the Lucy’s staff for being a freakin dog.
So if you want updates on your dogs or have concerns don’t come here...they will not answer your calls on the weekend because they are too “busy” or they are “checking in other guest”
Which is stupid because they should have someone manning the phones at all time.
Horrible experience, Never bringing my pup back here again and I don’t suggest boarding with them.
Edit: after this horrible stay/experience..I had to have my father pick my pup up as I am still traveling from out of town. These people forgot to give me back all my dogs supplies. They did not give him back his toys😒😒this place so unorganized/ unprofessional/ inconsiderate etc. If your pups are like your children please don’t...
Read moreI can’t tell you all how happy I was taking our babies here (Koda, Pumpkin, Penny, Rosee) to board at Lucy’s for a weekend. We took a mini-“vacation” in San Antonio and my family from Austin had come down to explore the riverwalk. Koda (our 6 month old dachshund) has never boarded or been away from humans, so the girlies (our weenies who live in Austin with my family) took a trip down to board with him here at Lucy’s. They have all boarded before but we wanted all of them to be together to make sure Koda wasn’t too scared or lonely. The girls are older and not used to being around many dogs, so we opted for them to not do the daycare, while Koda got to be in the interactive daycare throughout the day. Leading up to the stay, Lucy’s staff was so responsive and accommodating for our weenie pack, understanding all of their age differences, dietary/medication needs and schedules. The moment came to dropping them off and I couldn’t feel more at ease with leaving our babies with them.
Since we got the luxury boarding room them, they stayed in the same room with a webcam. We could see them sleep and the girls stay throughout the day in the room, as well as the playroom webcams we could view little Koda running around. Just knowing that we could view our babies when we missed them or thought about them made the trip much more enjoyable - they were in good hands. The Lucy’s staff was attentive and gave our babies extra love when they were scared. Don’t ask our babies about their stay, poor Penny lost her voice from barking/howling so much at night (she was scared) and Koda hid under the bed for the majority of the one night!
Our little old baby, Rosee, who is about 16+ year old long haired chiweenie, got her little spa day on that Saturday (they weren’t grooming on sundays). When we picked them up on Sunday, to my surprise, the staff had given her little bows that Sunday to make sure we got to see her come home the gorgeous little baby she is! I was touched that they would go that extra mile for our baby. Koda was scared for the first time in the play area with all of the doggies, at one point I couldn’t find him, and looked to see that he was being carried briefly by one of the staff members to make sure he got some extra love. So so sweet. They were even teaching him how to use the outdoor activities! He did eventually get used to the play area and other dogs, and ran around and jumped on the benches like the energetic boy he is! I was a little surprised to see some bigger doggies at some point in the small play area, but they all had very good tempers and were kind to the little doggies, in fact the little dogs (our Koda included) may have been in the ones messing the the bigger dogs!
Overall we had a great experience with the care of our babies here at Lucy’s. I’m grateful that we have a place we can trust to leave them if and when we go somewhere for an extended period of time. However, we don’t plan on that anytime too soon, have to let the babies recover from their very eventful weekend away from home! Thank you...
Read moreIn terms of facility and services offered, I truthfully don't think you can beat Lucy's. Their staff are knowledgeable, they have incredible kennels and boarding facilities, and they really do their best to give your pup the best experience. They make sure to update you on if things happen - for example, my one pup was limping and I was glad to be informed of that. When we got home, we identified it was due to some large abrasions and cuts on his paws, likely from anxious panicking in his kennel or potentially from playing fetch in their yards. He's the type to play without caring about being hurt.
I believe my experience was a bit of a one-off due to multiple miscommunications between the reservations team and the actual on-site staff. The reservation teams do not work on-site, so there can be easy mix ups.
Unfortunately, after first boarding, my pups were the only two without a raised cot. I had thought it might be due to needing to be cleaned (and this may have still been the case, but I wasn't informed otherwise), so had called and requested they were provided one. The staff were unsure why they didn't have them, and thankfully the next day they were given beds after a second phone call request was made, which was good. They were much happier sleeping on the cots.
The other concern I had was that my dogs do suffer from separation anxiety, and one definitely does not do well alone. Due to a mix up with the reservation team and previous calls, I was unable to book the required luxury suite size to have both of my dogs together. After talking with the staff, we decided it would be best to have them separate anyways but close to one another. They were almost back to back, which was great, because they could at least look over and see each other.
Aside from that, I had specifically requested through email, my profile, and phone calls to at least have them play together, as they've never once been boarded completely separate and have always played or been in the same large room together. I found out that during our booking they hadn't received a chance to interact with one another until it was pick up day. They don't play well with others, so for them, it was total isolation. My partner and I have never seen our one dog so panicked and determined to run back to the car, even after other boarding experiences in the past with other kennels (some of which were three weeks long). It was heartbreaking. Normally during pick ups, she's excited to see us and happily greets us once we're at the vehicle. This time around, I think being completely alone had genuinely shaken her.
These experiences make me apprehensive of any future boarding. If I hadn't been able to check on them periodically, I wouldn't have even been aware of these concerns, but at the same time, having the webcams was such a huge highlight in knowing they were okay. I do truthfully think my experience was far more rare and generally not the norm, but do recommend making sure your pups are getting the...
