If you fish here, have a license. It doesn't take a game warden to ticket you as I have seen Bexar County issue a citation for trespass to people illegally fishing(which transfers to your DPS file) and can result in a misdemeanor all because you don't have a license. Game wardens often visit the pond with TXWD and take samples. The pond is stocked yearly and fry are usually added every season. Yes, there is fish here. No, they do not like spinners or artificials. You will need live bait here. With all the bread in the water and trash from the bank, they really aren't interested in your $100 fishing lure from Cabelas. Bag limit applies! Don't get caught over bagging! They do not mess around here.
Bexar County patrols this park once every four hours or so. They protect this park with a passion. Every time I pass this park, there's police just walking around. No lights, no investigation, just hanging out. San Antonio Police Department has also started taking an interest here. Off duty officers can be found here sometimes. So you're as safe as the Northside at this place. Old Pearsall Rd is seeing redevelopment and massive investment again. Expect this park to be packed often on weekends.
As for the park? Pretty decent as far as a major metro goes. Is it trendy? No. In fact, it's usually loaded every holiday for no reason. On Sundays, churches rent the park so be prepared to...
Read moreFirst time fishing these waters. Caught a nice 10' rainbow trout and a small catfish. Needed the time by myself and enjoy something I love to do! Watching the rod tip for the slightest nibble or the bobber for the slightest move downward, indescribably satisfying! Beautiful area, beautiful pond. It was awesome seeing so many parents out there teaching their kids to fish. Was perfect weather until a little after dark and the wind with gust from 30-40 mph put a quick chill in the air. Still it was a very enjoyable place to spend a beautiful afternoon. Will make certain to get out there sooner and have more time for meditation(fishing). It is an awesome feeling catching your first Texas Rainbow Trout. Could say we were spoiled in Michigan having so many places to fish for wild Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Steelhead, Salmon, Lake Trout and many more variety of awesome fresh water seafood! Will most definitely go...
Read moreTonight was a little scary for the littles. Multiple gun shots could be heard. It didn’t happen in the park, but close enough. My thought they might be fireworks. Sadly it wasn’t.
We went for the fishing. It was decent. The pond is currently being stocked every two weeks and it was about a week from the last stocking of channel catfish.
The park is very nice. I do wish people would pickup after themselves or pickup some stray trash from animals rummaging if they happen to see it. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The trash situation isn’t bad, but I don’t think it’s good.
The people that use the park are good. You will see many people walking, jogging and the occasional biker. The fishermen are generally good. Some may be catching “bottle bass” instead of fish or reeling in “blunt bass.” In my experience you’ll see a vagrant every once in a while.
Police shut down the park at night around...
