La Popular Bakery — Restaurant in San Antonio

We go to this place about once a month, and the selection is great and everything is fresh, but it's hard to communicate with a Spanish speaking staff when I'm alone because I don't speak it. On my last visit, which was Dec 23rd, I went in for a fairly large order, which I had to try to explain a couple of times before the lady understood me. As I'm ordering, another lady walks in and interrupts and the lady behind the county literally just stopped listening to me as I'm asking for different pieces, walks over to the lady who just walked in, they have a full conversation in Spansh, and then the employee gets her a couple of things and rings her up. That's fine, since it was a smaller order than mine, but a heads up to me before just ignoring me would've been nice. So I get back to ordering and a man walks in and the same thing happens, she stops listening to me, goes over to him and helps him. Definitely agree with everyone about the woman in the front, she's quite rude. I was asking for a specific cookie (hojarascas) tried pointing to them in the display and she said oh these back here are the same cookie, they didn't even look the same and were definitely not the cookie I was asking for, I tried to explain that those weren't the ones I wanted but my Spanish isn't that good and she insisted I was wrong and gave me the wrong cookies. The packaging could use some work as well. We got a large variety of sweets and they were all placed together in small brown paper bags with nothing separating them and canoli cream got all over everything. I enjoy getting my sweet bread from this place, especially since it opens early. The selection is really good, and they sell tortillas and bolillos as well. The person who attends the store in the morning is really nice and friendly. If you have a large order, let them know before you start your selections so they can get you the appropriate sized box.
