2021 Fireworks show in San Antonio, TX.
•••"What to bring" advice below•••
The food trucks were clustered together and the lines were not ideal for families with kids, strollers, and full hands. There was definitely a better way to space out the fun. The city advertised carnival games but everything was (there were a couple of mobile trucks with games) piled together and impossible to navigate. There were no rides or anything that you'd expect from a large city's annual celebration. The park has a playground but good heavens... imagine the pile of kids utilizing the only bit of entertainment in the park. Again, this is my first time celebrating with the city; however, there could be so much more to really enjoy this venue for fireworks. Bring entertainment for the little ones or you're going to be struggling to keep their attention for long. Bathrooms lines are excessive and placed every so often along the way.
I'd return in future years but you'll need to bring a few items to enjoy the stay like a 12x12 canopy (shade from the sun), chairs, cooler (byob-alcohol and non-boozy), food/snacks/grill (you can BBQ on site), entertainment (cornhole, games, water guns, bocce ball, music), and pack it all into a collapsible wagon to haul it around. There's tons of room to claim some landscape art the park. You can even bring sparklers too.
Vendors are sparse so getting aqua fresca, snow cones, or even light up toys for the kids were not happening. Make sure you have all that you need or want otherwise you will be really thirsty and hungry until you escape the post-show traffic while...
Read moreDont miss this Lake & relaxing park.. I wasn't expecting to find an enormous park mid-neighborhood! Park in the Free parking lot, streets around the park have No Parking signs.
Adjacent to the lot is a lovely large playground for your little ones, plenty of safe equipment. Facing parking lot is antiquated stone-wall entry..to an Olympic-size pool.
Only a few wood picnic tables & benches, scattered - no tree cover for shade though. Though my visit was just days as after the Artic Blast of Snow of San Antonio, families had brought blankets & picnics on the lawns. Aong the wide concrete patheay, the little ones were riding their tricycles, happy taill-wagging dogs were being walked. Plenty of walkers & runners. The Lake itself is bordered by million-branched shading trees & green grassy areas. Be cautious on all slopes leading down to the water, as you'll slip & slip down.
There's a 1 mile walk around the Lake, every 1/8th to 1/4 mile is a sign, encouraging you to complete the full mile. A lovely curved metal bench is ssd situated about 1/2 way around, just over a footbridge.
The ducks are protected, so please don't feed them. When I spoke to, called the ducks they came right up to me. See proximity photos, 1 nearly touch my cell ph! See photos & once you arrive here enjoy your afternoon here, listen for...
Read moreIt’s a really lovely and mostly clean park. The walking trail around the lake is wonderful - bikes and scooters are not allowed on the path and park police was there making sure bikes stayed off (even kids on scooters and training bikes were asked to dismount and walk their bikes/scooters which I felt was maybe unnecessary but I get it - rules apply to everyone). Just a heads up - go elsewhere if you want somewhere to ride bikes.
I took off two stars because the restroom situation at this park (at least on the side of the playground/tennis courts) is absolutely terrible and ridiculous. There is one single restroom (well, one men’s and one women’s) for the loads of people hanging out on that side of the park. I waited in line 15-20 minutes to use the restroom that was absolutely filthy. The city definitely needs to improve the restroom situation here. All the other parks around town have adequate restroom facilities, so I’m not sure why this park’s is so far off base. Even portapotties would improve the situation.
The playground seemed fun for older kids but it was so busy that I didn’t feel comfortable letting my toddler play on the playground at the time we went. We walked around the lake instead and had a really...
