I have been eating at this restaurant for a minute now & have always appreciated the good food & friendly, helpful staff. Approximately 2 weeks ago I was at my friend's place on Craig St & the electricity went out for some reason. Obviously we weren't expecting this, so I was not prepared to leave the house in the freezing weather. The cold snap that was predicted had just come thru San Antonio approximately 3 - 4 hours earlier & it was COLD!! It had already dropped to 25' at around 7pm. I was in my pajama bottoms with around 4 layers of non-matching tops & jackets & looked like I was unkept & just walked out from under a bridge, for sure. Now mind you, I was homeless for a time & have nothing but respect for any & everyone that hits hard times & has no place to go. My heart feels sad for those people, as I once was that person & will forever help anyone that I can, within my abilities & resources. I walked into El Coco Rayado & the 2 waitresses just looked at me with this, 'Are you sure you're in the right place?' look. I asked the one waitress if I could please use the restroom & she said... yes, to just please keep it clean & don't dirty it. I went to the restroom & quickly changed my pants & freshened up a bit... altogether I was in there aporoximately 15 minutes, give or take. When I came out the 2 waitresses had this slightly amazed look on their faces, seeing as though the girl that walked into the bathroom didn't really look like the one that came out. I want to thank those 2 waitresses for their hospitality & kindness seeing as though it was below freezing outside & this was the only business open at this time for me to go into & change. A Tale of Two Experiences I visited this restaurant, which has a unique setup with both an indoor dining area and an outdoor snack stand. Unfortunately, my experience was vastly different between the two.
Outdoor Snack Stand: A Miss The outdoor snack stand was a disappointment. The customer service was marred by errors, with multiple customers receiving incorrect orders or having their requests for specific ingredients ignored. I witnessed three complaints in just one hour, including my own. The issues seemed to stem from a lack of attention to detail and poor communication from the staff.
Indoor Restaurant: A Hit In stark contrast, the indoor restaurant was a pleasant surprise. The food was delicious, and I had no complaints whatsoever. It was a welcome respite from the chaos I had observed outside. I'm not sure how to rate this establishment as a whole.
