Do NOT trust the reviews written here. The front desk staff has taken my phone before to write themselves a 5 star review, and I would not be surprised if many of the other reviews here are also written by staff members.
TLDR: Great coaches, rude front desk staff.
I have been a premier member for over 2 years, and have been to many locations, but never have had such terrible experiences at any location other than the Carmel Valley studio. I love the workout format and the coaches, but the people working the front desk are rude and unfriendly. I have been going to this studio since 2023, and I am not one to take the time to write Google reviews, but I have had too many poor experiences to not take the time to warn other prospective clients.
On multiple occasions, I have been 3-4 minutes late to class and turned away at the front desk. To be clear, the grace period is 5 minutes late. When I’ve asked about this, I was told that the owner/management wants it this way, but I have seen other members come more than 5 minutes late several times, and they have been let into the class. I am not sure if it’s exactly racial discrimination, but I always have noticed that front desk staff at this location being much more accommodating and friendly towards white members. The level of diversity at this location has sharply decreased since I first joined in 2023, and it’s not a surprised to me why.
Today, when I went to class, I was early, so I requested to start on a certain treadmill. The front desk lady told me that I couldn’t take this spot because it was already reserved. 10 minutes later, exactly when class started, a white woman rushed into the studio, almost late, and requested the spot I had requested earlier. Surprisingly, the spot happened to be available, and the front desk lady gave her the spot I had requested — the spot that was supposedly already taken. You can’t reserve spots ahead of time (prior to coming in), so I have no idea why I would be lied to about the availability of this spot. Additionally, I asked to be put on any treadmill after I was told that the specific one I requested was unavailable, but then got told no treadmills were open. The class wasn’t full, and once it started, there were plenty of unused treadmills.
There are many other instances in which I have felt subtle discrimination and unfriendliness from the front desk at this location. When my friends have asked me about my experiences here, I could not recommend this studio due to the behavior I have seen with the front desk. I would never want anyone to experience this. It’s a shame that this location is the closest to my home, but I don’t think I can continue to attend classes here due to the hostility I have...
Read moreI began orange theory two years ago as prep to get in shape before my wedding. My wife and I did it together and this studio has always been very accommodating to make sure we could always be paired together during workouts. Going to the classes has been a great way to hold myself accountable to a specific workout regime. It provides consistency for me, which I needed. It also provides enough variety with the workouts so it getting too stale. Two years later I find myself going to classes 4-5 times a week, every week.
The coaching staff is great. Coach Lindsay brings lots of high energy to the classes and pushes everyone hard without being intimidating. Coach Matt is super funny and brings a lot of fun to class, and he also provides great feedback on proper technique. Coach Kirby is very friendly and chill, and she brings a more zen atmosphere. Coach Reilly is the newest coach and has a no-nonsense approach to her coaching style. She will challenge you to go farther/lift more than you thought you could. No coach ever makes any one feel uncomfortable and all of them are approachable. I’ve never felt pressured at all, but definitely newly motivated.
Whether you’re starting off your weight-loss journey, training for a marathon, getting toned, or want to get in shape for your wedding, give this orange theory studio a try! It’s definitely worth it and vibe...
Read moreMembers and Buyers BEWARE purchase membership at different location. My Experience at Carmel Valley Orange Theory was terrible! I have been a member at various OT’s for 3.5 years and have never experienced anything like this. Coaching staff is great but the front desk is a bunch of sales people. New members BEWARE!!! My boyfriend and I were convinced by the manager Rachel and assistant manager Amy to change our home studio to Carmel Valley from our original home studio. We gave them permission to make the change IF the rate stayed the same (as we had an original founders rate $50 less a month each than the going rate). Turns out they couldn’t keep our rate and went ahead with the changes anyway WITHOUT permission and then proceeded to charge it to our cards for months. There was NO accountability every person I worked with deflected the problem on to someone else. Even the owner would not take responsibility. After 3.5 years of being a member I thought they would treat me better or at least fair. Not only that I had refereed a total of 4 members to Orange Theory. Extremely dishonest business practice! I recommend Orange Theory just NOT this one. If you must use Carmel Valley OT for convenience reasons do so but do not let them hold you membership. Sign up somewhere else!! You can still use...
