I used to hang out at this park as recently as 2019. I sat on the benches while I was waiting for Mother Browns to open for services. See I was homeless but I behaved myself like a normal person. I used the park to practice my guitar or listen to music (earbuds) and read. Some people used the fields for their dogs. I think the field was plenty good enough for dogs. Some people occasionally practiced on the field. I remember a father and son, pitching and hitting a baseball. I am a client of SEHC across the street. So I periodically saw the renovation and couldn't wait to see what all the construction was about. During renovation I was curious if I a black woman would still be welcomed. My cynicism wasn't unwarranted. Yesterday was my first day inside the heavily guarded park. It is not easy to enter or exit it. It seems to be more like a private recreational area to accompany a school. So is the pool next? What's up? There is an area for children only. That's thoughtful. I couldn't sit in there and not look suspicious. It didn't look like I was welcomed to sit in the park. Hence no loitering and or being non-productive in this park. They did add outdoor exercise equipment for "athletes." I hope when the black people come there to work out you won't be offended. Gentrification all over The Bay. Upgrading two buildings named after heroic black American men. Keep this review up as a timestamp and motivation for San Francisco Recreation and Parks to do the right thing for the black, poor and homeless communities trying to be comfortable...
Read moreThis place is soooo disgusting and worn. It looks like they use it as a public restroom. I avoid bringing my kids here. There are nicer parks near by.
I have noticed many positive reviews. I believe they are confused. This park is in very poor condition. It's on 3rd street next to the Martin Luther King Jr. Pool. This park has feces, garbage and other unsafe deplorable conditions. Akin to a third...
Read moreIn a really shoddy area, heroin addicts are prevalent, with many of their needles being thrown into the lawns of the park. Definitely a place to maybe walk, and not take children to play on the grass.
The baseball field is being redone as I'm writing this, as well as the playground. Which maybe will offer a chance to clean...
