One of the wildest areas of San Francisco, you'll encounter diverse vegetation and some truly off-the-beaten track hiking trails here. To get a sense of the area, one suggested walking tour would be to start well below the area at the Laguna Honda Reservoir. Then walk up Clarendon Ave to Christopher Drive and then head up two steep sets of stairs as you head to Bair Ave and then on to the Interior Greenbelt, where you are rewarded with great views. Read moreI think this is also called Mt Sutro forest. I am a fan of Muir Woods, Land's End and the walk in the Presidio from Arguello to the bridge. This is as good as the more isolated trails in Muir Woods. There are stumps, and woods smells and it certainly is up but not too up. It is a wonderful walk, well marked, and easy to get to with Muni.
