They don't kid when they have "Comfort Food" written outside. Came here on a cold November evening with my roommate with a lot of hunger in our stomachs, and we were seated almost immediately (we had joined the Yelp waitlist a little before as I don't think there were reservations). There were a lot of to-go orders and not much place to sit so I'd recommend putting your name on the waitlist beforehand.
We ordered: Mezze Platter (10/10) Lamb Shank (9/10) Beef Kabob (6/10) Hand Kneaded Bread (8/10)
We ate at an uncomfortably quick pace because the food was THAT good. Super glad that we started with the mezze platter since we were able to try the muhammara which was phenomenal. The only thing I wasn't a fan of on the platter was the falafel, which was a tad bit dry. The lamb shank was also super soft and tasty, a bit tomato-y but if you're into that you'd love it. I wasn't a huge fan of the beef kebob, it was a bit on the drier side. The rice that came with the orders was SO good, and the hand kneaded bread was the perfect pairing with the mezze platter.
Service was pretty quick, we got our food within 5-10 mins of ordering. The total came out to around $102 which wasn't terrible to split among 2 people. I'll for sure be back!!
Amy S.Elite 2022 San Francisco, CA 1713497 10/31/2022 2 photos Came for a dinner with roommates and we were blown away by the quality of food here!
We came around 7:45pm on a Tuesday and there was a 15-20 minute wait for 3 people. We didn't realize there was a Yelp waitlist until we got there, so if you're looking to eat at a specific time I would join the waitlist ahead of time. We were eventually seated outside where it was a bit cold and dark, but they were really flexible in letting us configure our table so we could be close to the heat lamps. If you can, I'd still opt to eat inside if possible.
FOOD Chicken Shish Tawook Plate - The chicken was super juice and tender! It paired nicely with the buttery rice and hummus. I only wish there was more pita bread on the side so I could scrape up the last bits of hummus. Gazan Braised Lamb Shank - If you're into lamb, you should definitely get this! The meat was falling off the bone, and the broth was savory with a bit of acid, so I felt like I could drink it all day. There's little couscous grains at the bottom of the bowl which were a textural contrast I feel like didn't add much to the experience. Still a 10/10 dish though, especially with the rice on the side.
I would come back here again for either of the dishes that I ordered last time, and I recommend this place to any of my friends that are looking for comfort food.

Vic F.Elite 2022 Oakland, CA 3650831 10/30/2022 1 photo1 check-in Came by for late lunch, trying to stay on the lighter side. Got the mezze platter and potatoes, that was big mistake...over indulged, left stuffed. Legit middle Eastern chow.
Definitely coming back hungry for dinner to experience one of their platters.
Nice vibe, not fancy but it's got tons of character. Server/cashier was super nice.
Mezze, don't look like much but I'm stuffed!

Read moreDisastrous experience, after 30 min wait for a table they gave a table for 2 and added a seat, we just left Response to you reply: We did inform your team that the table initially set for two was not adequate for a group of three, especially as it was placed in a location that disrupted foot traffic. The response we received was simply, “Sorry, no other options — take it or leave it.” That’s not an acceptable approach to customer service. In any proper restaurant — and I don’t mean fast food chains — a server takes your order at the table. This standard of service did not apply at your establishment. After waiting over 30 minutes in an unsuitable seating arrangement, we were told to queue behind eight other people just to place our order. That is not how table service should work. Please don’t suggest that we were upset simply about the wait time — that wasn’t the issue. What was truly disappointing was the lack of proper service and the poor handling of the seating. These aspects fell far below the standards of a real, full-service restaurant. I was a regular at the burger place that occupied this space before your arrival, and the quality — both in food and service — was consistently excellent. Finally, using “this is our busiest time” as an excuse is not valid. A restaurant must be prepared for peak times, especially if it aims to present itself as a quality dining...
Read moreWe have recommended Beit Rima as our favorite Mediterranean restaurant in SF since before the pandemic. So this incident was disappointing.
We had family visiting and I ordered several items from their website. Since the hand bread was not available at Church st, I decided to gamble and order from Carl St: Couple Mezze sampler, Beef Kabob Plate, Chicken Shishtawook Plate, Hand Breads, Ful and the incredible Batata Harra.
Pickup was a pain since it involved driving an additional 15 minutes, but the food is worth it. Long story short, the person picking up returns home and we find the Batara Hara missing. Bummer since I had talked it up to the visiting family, but it happens when the kitchen is busy. What was unexpected was getting a refund is a pain.
I shot off an email to the 2 emails which confirmed the order with images, and then to another email suggested on the website, however after over a week no response!
The food is stellar, but the quantity isn't as generous as it used to be. While the prices are up as much as 20-25%. Inflation sucks.
Not sure if Samir is aware that the Carl st crew may be running thin that they struggle to process a refund for missing items, or that items are missing in the first place. Bottomline, I will not order from Carl st again, and stick to Church st, and since the prices are a little crazy, save the orders for really...
