Please avoid playing this course as it is easily the most awfully maintained course to the point where you will have a hard time having fun. Look, there is no doubt, this course is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of San Francisco with absolutely magnificent views. I recommend you take a walk on the Bay Trail which lets you wind through the prettiest views you get on the course, without having to deal with the absolute horror show that this golf course is. Whether you are an expert golfer or not so great, or new to the sport, do yourself a huge favor and pay a few extra dollars to play at Presidio, or play the 9 hole course at TPC Harding (Fleming). Fleming is like $20 and Presidio is $33 at Twilight (whereas Lincoln is $25). Sure this course is "cheap" but not that cheap that I'd give it the insane amount of slack it would need to be justifiably so poorly maintained.
This course is absolutely impossible to play, and not because it's a challenging design or something. The greens have so many craters you might as well be putting on the dark side of the moon, there is absolutely no way to properly read and make a putt on this course. Additionally, the grass is so inconsistent and poorly cut, there are really not "fairways", it's all pretty deep grass or GUR. The tee boxes have grass taller than you'd find in an overgrown backyard. The course slopes so much, that you will never find a normal stance no matter how well you drive the ball. Add the wacky grass cuts and dirt and you are in for a round of plenty of lost balls and crazy hits.
I've lived here 9 years and have played the course maybe twice and both times I swore to never play there again. Courses don't have to be perfect, especially municipal courses, but I cannot understand why this course, with normal greens fees in an expensive city can't do much to improve quality. It's really a shame because it has great potential. Do yourself a favor and hike the Bay Trail (or even the course) for views, but save actually playing golf for Golden Gate Park, Presidio, or Harding. Even though Presidio and Harding are also pretty tough courses, you at least have a chance to read some good putts and hit the ball well. Even a scratch golfer could lose 10 balls and 4 putt this course for a 95.
It really is a shame, but I promise there are other fun places to play in the city, and you can still see these views without the cost of hating your game. Maybe one day this course will get the care it deserves, but until then it might be better off as a public park for picnics or additional trails rather than taking up...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of playing a round of golf at Lincoln Park Golf Course, and overall it was a great experience. The course is located in one of the most beautiful parts of San Francisco, and offers some truly extraordinary views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city skyline.
In terms of course conditions, I found Lincoln Park Golf Course to be in decent shape. The greens were fairly fast and consistent, and the bunkers were decently maintained. However, the course can be a bit challenging in spots, with some narrow fairways and tricky approach shots.
One of the standout features of Lincoln Park Golf Course is its rich history. The course was originally built in the 1900s, and has been a beloved part of the San Francisco community for over a century. In fact, the course is located right next to the Legion of Honor museum, which offers the possibility of two special events in one day. Just make sure to check your bags in at the course before you visit the museum to avoid theft.
Whether you're a history buff or just looking for a challenging round of golf, Lincoln Park Golf Course is definitely worth a visit. The extraordinary views alone are worth the price of admission, and the course offers plenty of opportunities to test your skills and have some fun on the links. Overall, I give Lincoln Park Golf Course 4...
Read moreI don’t usually write reviews of golf courses as they tend to all usually have a standard of service, but this course really fell short. Aside from the view on the 17th hole, there wern’t many redeeming qualities.
Two things stood out to me as being just really bad. The first was that none of the holes are marked with a number. That coupled with the fact that the course is unintuitive in its design make getting lost here as a first round or even 2nd rounder extremely likely. Their scorecard is not in map format, making this even more of an issue. I definitely golfed the wrong hole two or three times during my round.
2nd, I needed some lunch after 18 so went in to the clubhouse to get a muffin for $3 and used apple pay / card and the clubhouse rep chastised me in an authoritative tone to “make sure you bring cash next time. The city doesn’t like to see these small transactions done with card.” Not even sure what that means - he just doesn’t want to pay a convenience fee for his customers. Not the type of service or place I want to relax and unwind with a round. Clubhouse also in need of significant renovation - its basically just a shack.
2 stars because of the view on 17 is nice and i hit a 30...
