Patrick Russ had been recommended to me as a firearm instructor. His appearance was friendly and qualified at first and worth the $75/hour. But his attitude changed in my opinion when I bought the first gun in my life at this North County Shooting Center. He sold to me a USED Ruger 5401 for $679.95. Almost every gun shop I checked sells those retail NEW for about $560.00. During our next training hours, he realized that it had too much recoil for me. He refused to take it back and promised lower recoil ammunition, but was not able lo locate this ammunition for some time. One day before my CCW test he suddenly found low recoil ammunition, but no possibility to test fire any more. I failed my test since this was not low recoil to me. He did not agree to trade this Ruger up to a 22caliber Revolver which was recommended to me, instead of started a sales conversation about an additional 22 caliber gun. Somebody, who did not introduce himself, interrupted our conversation and offered the perfect gun for me. Patrick seemed intimidated and afraid to say a single word any more. Not at all standing up to his customer but totally giving in to this person. The perfect gun was a Glock G19 Standard with a 22 caliber conversion kit for $897.09. I insisted to test fire at their range and the recoil was endurable, but it jammed repeatedly even when Patrick fired it. He explained it would work properly after I used it more. I passed my CCW test, but it jammed again repeatedly during the test, even when the Instructor (retired Sheriff) test fired. Even though it jammed on the Instructor and Patrick he refused to take it back, just like the Ruger. Trading this Glock up to a 22 caliber Revolver (which I originally wanted) was refused as well. I have about 20 texts from Patrick here believed talking himself from text to text into more trouble; AD I - you need to shoot it 500 rounds and it MAY NOT jam any more (he knew that I just needed a reliable low recoil gun for self defense and will never shoot 500 rounds in my lifetime) - AD II - I told you that a 22 conversion will always jam it is the nature of this caliber (neither I nor my Husband recall to ever have heard this before I bought - but it confirms in my opinion that knowingly an unsafe gun has been sold and any harm caused to me by an aggressor if my gun jams in self defense is here believed the sellers responsibility) - AD III - I recommend to use a higher recoil ammunition (Patrick himself especially sent me to another gun shop to buy the ammunition which I am using - any higher recoil is not allowed and dangerous to use with this conversion kit, which he should be aware of) - AD IV - the shooter can also play a big role in how this firearm shoots (it jammed on the Sheriff and Patrick) - AD V - I am absolutely positive that there is nothing wrong with the conversion kit or the Glock. Therefore we will not be refunding either (NOTHING WRONG - it only jammed repeatedly on the Sheriff and Patrick) - It would in my opinion read like a comic to publish more of his here believed ridiculous texts. My Husband as an Attorney is considering to have one of his Attorney Friends being licensed in California prepare a lawsuit in this case. It is not about the money, but to have these business practices judged on. I still think about Patrick as a good person, but believe he is totally intimidated for whatever reason and I feel...
Read moreI wish I could have 2 reviews for this place--One for the CCW class and another for the clerks I dealt with. John is by-far the best Firearms instructor I've seen. If you get a CCW, go to his class, but if you want ammo or guns, go somewhere else. I asked a blonde woman who was at the register at the time if they sold Beretta shotguns, her hasty response was, "everything for sale is over there. No we don't" and cut off our interaction right there and turned away. I had to pay for ammo for my qual, and I asked if I could get some additional ammo, she said she wanted to do this one first, and that there was a long line. I looked at her like, excuse me? I'm a customer too. She explained it was a different transaction with a background check, and she couldn't do it, and the one who can is on the phone." The one on the phone wasn't much better. I asked him about a red dot for my gun, he said which one do you want? I said I don't know yet. He said, "You have to know which one you want before you can put it on..." wow, no kidding, talking to me as if I didn't know anything about guns. I was thinking more like, what is the process to get this done. I explained my Sig isn't optics ready. "He told me it has to be optics ready before you can figure out what red dot you want." He stood there silent after his condescending attitude, expecting me to leave. I continued to ask about buying a new optic ready slide, I'm thinking like, "Dude, what are my options?" little help here. Long story short, don't deal with the clerks, they don't have...
Read moreI have never had an experience even close to this at a gun range.
YOU ARE REQUIRED to get a membership just to shoot. Apparently it is some city law, typical of Commifornia. Which would be fine if they didn't charge 15 dollars for that fake membership... Then your hourly range time is 20 dollars.. another 10 if you have 2 people in your lane. Don't forget a dollar per target, and that you HAVE to buy hearing/eye pro if you do not have your own. (Cant borrow the ranges.) 65 dollars just to shoot some paper, brought my own ammo thank god.
Don't forget the staff who stood there making fun of shooters they had on the range, loud enough for me to hear while filling out their 20 page membership documentation. Constantly on alert for anyone about to make a "double shot." They act like a bunch of children gossiping in the corner.
Their selection of firearms is somewhat standard for California. Prices are typically over priced for a range. Just go down to ammo bros on Miramar if you want a decent deal on a firearm. Or you can pay $450 for a Shield. Your call.
This last thing is just a personal issue. I am from Florida, I wear flip flops every day, where ever I go. I am not worried about a piece of brass dropping on my foot and bouncing off. This snowflake of a range needs to do a little better controlling their emotions and their price tags.
I will not be returning, even though i already paid their ridiculous membership fee...
