The best museum I have been to. I was planning a bridal shower excursion to the East Bay and the bride-to-be loves natural history museums. Located in the beautiful Blackhawk Plaza, the museum blends in quite well with the rest of the outside mall. If it wasn't for the animal sculptures like the huge elephant outside, I would have passed it unwittingly. I actually thought it was a gym at first. It is located on the top of the stairs with some cascading fountains. I have seen two wedding parties take place here. One had a setup in front of the museum. I noticed that the hors d'oeuvres and DJ setup with the background of the animals was epic and had many people taking pictures on the steps.
The second wedding I have seen on my visits was a banquet held in the car showroom. They have a spectacular collection of cars, some very old-fashioned with the blinkers and spare tires located in very odd places. It is the best place to bring any car buff. They have Ferraris as well if that is more your speed.
The other crown jewel here is the China section; it is so elaborate, like being in an extended version of a Disneyland ride. The under-the-sea and wildlife region is great if you like "stuffed" animals.
The museum is clean and well-furnished. The bathrooms are dandy too. It is in the well-off neighborhood of Danville. There is a discount for students and military. We were ready to pull out our student IDs when the lady at the door said it was unnecessary. I guess that's how much they don't...
Read moreNot just an auto museum anymore. Kenneth Berhing, the developer of Blackhawk and San Ramon's Canyon Lakes Development and one time owner of the Seattle Seahawks, was also a world class collector of classic and antique autos and motorcycles and the founder of the Blackhawk Museum that displays these prized vehicles. He then collected a lot more stuff from around the world.
There is an African Art exhibit called Art of Africa. A Spirit of the Old West that is on the top floor, which includes a California section. And now an extensive Chinese Art and Culture exhibit called "Intro China."
The Chinese Art is not necessarily "antique" or old, but lots of reproductions. There is the massive model of The Forbidden City and Terracotta Warrior section.
A "con" is all the Chinese Art descriptions and wall descriptions are in English Only. It should also be written in Chinese.
You can rent out this place for private events. You can have your party on the first floor in the massive room that beautifully displays the global collection of classic autos and motorcycles from around the world.
The front entrance has a ramp to the side of the building so that people using wheelchairs or pushing strollers can easily enter.
Blackhawk Museum is located at the far back within Blackhawk Plaza. Parking is free in the Blackhawk Plaza parking lot.

Read moreI recently visited the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, CA with my 3-year-old daughter, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. As an elite Yelper and Google review contributor, I have high standards, and this museum met them all.
The staff at the Blackhawk Museum were incredibly friendly and welcoming, ensuring we had all the information we needed to make the most of our visit. The exhibits are top-notch, particularly the stunning classic car collection. My daughter was fascinated by the gleaming cars, and I appreciated the detailed descriptions and historical context provided.
The museum also features a fantastic children’s area, filled with interactive displays and hands-on activities that are perfect for young visitors. My daughter had a blast exploring and learning, and I was impressed by the quality of the educational programs offered.
The facility itself is clean, well-organized, and comfortable, with ample seating and a lovely cafe offering a good selection of refreshments. Parking was a breeze, making our visit even more enjoyable.
