There is a very special place the Atlanta Georgia Temple holds in my heart as I have taken in my own endoment in 1986 and was sealed in 1992 to my spouce following my mission in 1988.. I have also attended the dedication and rededication of the Atlanta Georgia Temple. I was able to see and hear the voice of a living Apostle of the Lord, Elder Gorden Hinkely in June of 1983 for the dedication and by President Thomas Monson for the rededication of the Temple in May of 2011. Seeing an Apostle and then a living Prophet of God at each of these incidences, is a very special and oft time rare occurence for members of the Church ofJeus Christ of Latter-Day Saints here in the south. I have attendeed and worshiped in this sacred building many times, for this is the Temple to which our Stalke has always been assigned prior to the compleation, dedication, and opening of the Birmingham Alabama LDS Temple. There was no spire nor angle Moroni in the initial design of the AtlantaTemple, the name by which it was known initally, but shortly there after the addition of these two noteworthy and defining characteristics started the tradition of including the temple spire and angel Moroni on every subsequent temple constructed...
Read moreI'm so happy we have a temple right here in Sandy Springs, the Atlanta Georgia Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The temple has always been beautiful to me, from my first visit to be married and sealed for time and all eternity in the 1980's to 2012 after its recent renovation. What a wonderful opportunity to feel celestial and peaceful in this rough and tumble world and to know that we can be together as a family forever.
The temple grounds are lovely and the building itself stands as a beautiful beacon in the neighborhood with a golden angel sounding his trumpet and the flag of the United States of America waving in the breeze. The temple is only open to worthy members of the church on certain days of the week, but just on the other side, at 6449 Glenridge Drive is a chapel where regular church services are held on Sundays. Services start at 9am, 11am, and for young single adults at 1:30pm. All...
Read moreI've been interning in Atlanta this summer, and even though I'm only here for 3 months, the congregation has made me feel very welcome and invited me to numerous events outside of Sunday worship, like cliff jumping, basketball, boating, swimming, BBQing, and tons of other stuff. Many times they even have food for anyone in the congregation who want to hang out afterward.
The location is really convenient and easy to get to, off the 400 & 285, with plenty of parking. It's also a really nice spot since they're right next to the Atlanta Temple. The congregation is for young single adults, typically anywhere between 18-30yrs old, and from all different backgrounds, races, and socio-economic lifestyles and from all over the metro area (and outside). Thus far, I haven't met anyone there I didn't wanna...
