This Public Lighthouse Beach accommodates Visitors who are either staying on the Island or just dropping by for the day. There are several parking lots to choose from, these lots are PAID parking! Do not go to the Beach and not pay for your space, you will get a ticket. You can choose from minutes to hours. Grrr... my hubby is always trying to avoid paying for parking. DON'T! Bring your own beach chairs, cooler and fishing gear. There are no concession stands, however their is an INDOOR Bathroom (YEAH!). Spend the day enjoying tanning, fishing, swimming, paddle boarding or kayaking (no rentals available, bring your own). Stretch your legs and wander over to the Fishing pier where the fish are waiting for some bait ;) There are usually a few dolphins, Egrets or Pelicans waiting to steal your bait! After you leave the pier, you will come to the Light house (great photo opp). The entire Beach area is owned by the US Coast Guard and is a wildlife sanctuary. Warning: NO climbing up the Lighthouse as it is still operational. There are some buildings which are historic or for maintenance, no entrance to any of these for the general public. One can spend the day at the Lighthouse Beach or one hour. Lots of restaurants located nearby serving breakfast,...
Read moreThe lighthouse isn’t nothing special. However the beach is nice but becomes crowded pretty quickly. I arrived 6:24am, 15 minutes before sunrise and the parking lot was already 1/4 full. Albeit, this was a Saturday morning in early July. The sunrise was great. People were already shelling as it rose. I walked about 3 miles of beach north from the lot. The beach was great. When I got back at around 11am, the lot was slammed and the beach right by the lot was packed. Vehicles were circling looking for a spot. The lot isn’t very big, but bigger than most of the small beach accesses. For the love of god I can’t figure out why everyone that goes to the beach all stay on the beach right in from of the parking lot. People need to walk a bit, see the beach, stare at the ocean and not the back of someone else’s chair. There’s literally miles of beach and everyone is in a 100 yard area. Maybe it would help walking a bit so those swimsuit fit better. Maybe they are really extroverted and love the company? Anyways, the light house is meh but the...
Read moreMan o man talk about blissful!! I was taken away by the white crispy sands and beautiful paradise like scenery. We took a tent and our day was almost cut short by a storm but we decided to try to see if it passes over so all seven of us huddles under the tent while the storm passed through. Just then as small droplets took their final plunge I spotted a dolphin super close to the shoreline. At first, I was a bit concerned and thought he was being pushed to shore by the current so I started to go in the water and I follower the little guy for about a mile till I felt he was danger free! Oh! I almost forgot and I have no idea how could I leave this part out … THE SHELLS … outta sight !!! I got some of the most beautiful shells most were in perfect condition and when I got home and washed them, I found that I had even picked up some sort of bone (which Ofcourse I looked online and found out that it is not uncommon to find bone on this beach). With that being said, I highly suggest you treat yourself and your family a piece of...
